Hi everyone!  Spencer has started shedding big time.  It’s coming out in clumps around his rear area.  I have to vacuum daily just to keep things looking a little neat!  Anyway, are all bunnies different or does shedding take a certain amount of time and then it’s over with?  It started off with very little hair but now it’s big time.  If you pick him up, you are covered head to toe!

All bunnies seem to shed a little differently based on the bunny and based on the breed also- rex or mini rex rabbits often look as though they get “clumps” that are ready to come out.  I don’t see those too often on my lop breeds.  My Mini Lops seem to shed all over- no noticeable clumps.  My English Lop has shorter fur (at least at this age- 4 1/2 months old) and I can see a noticeable shed pattern on his back where the fur looks shorter as he sheds it out and regrows his fur.

Some bunnies- like shaded bunnies- Siamese (called sable) or color point bunnies- you can notice a color change as they shed- they typically get darker as they get older- and mid-shed you can see the darker fur coming in.

Edit- if you dampen your hands and then pet your bunny it will grab out the loose hair- then rub your hands together to clump the fur up to be able to throw it away- it helps getting not quite as much fur in the house!
