A couple weeks ago I noticed that on the front side of Velvet’s forelegs there these spots that were bald and I didn’t think too much of it because the skin looked fine and nothing seemed wrong except that there was no fur in those areas.  Well today I noticed that the balding has spread around one side of him and now he has this blad spot on the sides of his belly with patchy fur around it!!!    I haven’t noticed anything wrong with him though, he has been eating and pooping fine and aside from his tooth which we got clipped and those bald spots he seems fine.   Does anyone know if this is normal for Lionheads?  We’re going to make an appoinment with the vet just in case but I’m very worried about him.

It’s a good thing you’re taking him to the vet…
Mr. Bunny has the same problem, except it’s on his head. He’s now on medicines for mites and fungus. There’s quite a few things that can cause bald spots on bunnies.

Does Velvet have any dry/flaky skin on the patches? Is the skin irritated or itchy that you can tell? Is there new fur coming in?

Has any fur grown back in the other patches? It may be something like mites so easily treatable. Good he’s seeing the vet. If it’s not something benign like mites or shedding; sometimes rabbits will pull their own fur when experiencing discomfort/pain – usually due to teeth. Since you mentioned tooth trims I thought I’d bring this up. Just keep it in mind.

His skin looks healthy- no dry flaky skin and it doesn’t look irritated either. There are little black patches of what looks like fur in some parts of the bald spot but, those spots are really little and the skin around them is black. I’ll remember that jerseygirl and see if I see him pulling out any fur . . . my poor baby.

It’s best to ask a vet. It may be something or nothing at all. Some angora rabbits get pretty naked during their heavy molt.

Well, we go to the vet on next Saturday (he’s only available on certain days).  Anyway, here’s a picture of his huge bald spot on his right side and there is another on his left side that is bigger. . .
