I have recently put my rabbits into one encloser. I gave them a large cat litter pan, a deep one, but I’m having a real problem with Harloe digging in it. It wouldn’t be suck an issue except she kicking it in the floor. it’s quite funny to watch her spread her back  legs and shovel he littler through them turning the pellets into dust, but its really making a mess and causeing me to have to change the littler more then is nessicary. I  was wondering if anyone had and ideas for toys that would stimulate her to dig there rather then places I dont want her to dig. I would like to put carpet or something in the cage but they don’t seem to like the carpet  when they are out they still lay on the tile in my kitchen. Plus my male rabbit seems to ingest everything so that is a concern with the carpet also. Thanks so much for any suggestions

I have a paper bag filled with shredd3ed paper that Monkey loved digging around in. She also has a willow basket with shredded paper too. I heard they phone books, but my Monkey hasn’t figured that out yet

Pebbles was simular, at first her litter pan and Yesterday’s News didn’t bother her and she used it all the time. Then she decided that she didn’t like that set up any more, started digging like a crazy idiot – kicking litter, poos – everything out of her litter box. I would sweep it all up, and put it back in her box and she would go to work digging again. After some exasperated looks between us, I tried something…. Cleaned the litter pan with a bit of vinager/water mix, dryed the box, then layed 4-5 sheets of news paper in the bottom, added the litter (a cup full in each corner) then put her “spent” hay over the top of everything. Digging in the litter box hasn’t been a problem since. I do believe she didn’t like the texture of the litter under her feet. Not sure if her feet where getting wet, or if it was too “rocky” – but, give that a try – providing some softer texture to the litter box.

And I also have provided Pebbles with several shallow boxes with “spent” hay that she digs in – but doesn’t seem to poo in.

Rabbits just like to be entertained by us hoomins trying to figure out what is going on in those fuzzy little heads.

I think digging is very important for rabbits. They’re built to dig extensive underground tunnel systems. I really wish I could give my rabbits a warren.

I love how they lift the butt and scoot the stuff they’re diggin thru the legs too!  Check out this video Binky Bunny posted in this thread of Rucy and the diggy box.  https://www.binkybunny.com/FORUM/tabid/54/a…fault.aspx   It may get messy too, but if it’s all set up on a tarp or something, it wouldn’t be too big a deal to shove all the paper back in the box.

For the litter pan, maybe try a cake cooling rack over the litter then some hay on top of that?

I’ve always wanted to bring in a box of dirt for them to dig in-don’t know if that would work. I’ll let you know when I try

                  See Diggy Box https://binkybunny.com/BUNNYINFO/ToyTest/ArchivedToyTests/tabid/126/Default.aspx
It’s shredded paper in a box-cardboard or I use a laundry bin so it can be wiped out if they pee it in

For litter box digging, grab some NIC cubes and cover your box…dirty litter strewn all over is not cool
