Lately I have noticed that Fern chases thistle away when they are eating lettuce together, no biting is involved but I want to know what I should do about it! Poor thistle really wants to eat lettuce but Fern chases him away! Poor thistle, I ended up moving a pice of lettuce close to me away from Fern especially for him but Fern the cheeky little blighter went right to that one and started eating it. They have never had a tiff I am just wondering why this is happening.

          Are they totally bonded otherwise?

Honestly I wouldn’t worry as long as they aren’t getting into physical fights

My Rupert is a HUGE piggie, and actually takes treats from Kahlua. I just feed veggies in a few piles so that he doesn’t feel like she’s stealing, and treats I ensure she gets her share.

I wouldn’t worry. There’s a little ritual that happens everytime I fill the food bowl for my rabbits.

Both rabbits beg by climbing the cage walls.
They hear the pellets drop in
Dono gets down and hops away from the bowl
Maryann gives a half hearted lunge at him
Maryann turns and begins to eat
As soon as she has a mouthful, Dono hops back over and begins to eat too.

Maryann has to have the first bite and Dono’s learned this. Once they start eating together though, everything is just fine.

My bunnies have a ritual too when it comes to carrots:

Bunnies hear the carrot bag open
Bunnies also start climbing the cage walls just like MarkBun’s
I give them both a carrot at the exact same time
Juli takes her carrot and starts eating it
Kramer takes his, runs to the other side of the cage, decides he doesn’t want THAT one, and runs over to Juli
Kramer takes Juli’s carrot and runs away
I retrieve Kramer’s original carrot and give it back to Juli

This happens EVERY MORNING, so I think its pretty normal for bunny’s to steal out of each other’s mouths. I would just do what K&K mentioned and make a couple lettuce piles in different areas of the cage.

Samson is a bit of a bully when it comes to food (or treats) as well. He has to be the first one to eat any veggies, pellets, hay, etc. If I give Ivy a carrot first he will run and steal it (they will then sit and share the carrot so its not in a mean way just to say hey I get the first carrot).

Ivy doesnt seem bothered by this so I am not either. I do try to spread their food over a large area so that Samson cant “hog” all the space or all the good bits first.

Bunnies are so silly!!! I love how as you get to know them better you notice little things about their relationships like this!

Sometimes I notice that pets are just like little children in taking things away from one another. It happens with my cats. When I give out treats of canned food, I have to make sure that Lady Jane and Sweetpea gets theirs separately because Earl and Baby love to hog all the food and push them away from their dish.

i would say that we have a lot of selfish buns max and penny steal food from each other and from me all the time! if i drop something on the ground, i better pray its bunny-safe because they love to steal it.
