We used to have a big rabbit hutch when I had an outdoor rabbit as a kid. My dad built it.

If you’re an area that gets cold, you need to make sure you get panels of wood that can be attached to any wire areas of the hutch. Then when the weather starts to get chilly, you attach the wood panels and it keeps the wind from blowing in as much.

We had a big rabbit run. It was a giant pen that had a wooden frame and chicken-wire for the sides. We gave it a bottom of chicken wire so that my rabbit could not dig out.. but the grass could still poke through. We attached a big black tube (you can find these at home depot) from the run to the hutch. It was JUST big enough for my rabbit. We left the run attached to the hutch at all times. Our figuring was that if the bunny got scared, she could run up the tube into her safe hutch. And the tube was only big enough for her… not big enough for a raccoon or dog or something. If the dog was small enough to get up the tube (like a toy poodle maybe? lol) he would not be able to jump into the pen b/c the sides were too high.

 I don’t have a much experience with creating outdoor hutches, but every once in awhile we will come across someone who has to.  One of the things that has been noted is to create an underground fence of sorts so they can’t burrow out of the enclosure. 

We do have one really great outdoor habitat for someone who rescued rabbits who were feral and so this was the habitat they built

Ditto on the outdoor lack of experience.

Some things to consider:
1) It HAS to be able to keep out birds, foxes, squirrels etc-so really tight security. Also flies/mosquitos etc. Very Secure
2) Easy for you to get in to clean. I’d include a bench to sit on so I could hang out in there.
3) Windows-north facing if you can-to let in natural light but not south facing so it doesn’t heat the place up to much.
4) Temperature controls-if you can’t/aren’t heating/cooling the place-at least install a thermometer so you can moniter. Temps from 65-75F are tolerable.
5) Something for air flow-preferabley that you can close in cool weather? But open to get fresh air.

I’d also put shelves in so you can store all your bunny gear (food, hay, litter, toys) easily

edit: I browsed through that thread and found some are less safe than would be desirable. But you could go with something similar and upgrade on the security (adding a top to protect from birds etc, e.g. )

Where do you live Briana? The cold is one thing to worry about and so is the heat. Another thing is the bugs. Rabbits can get a number of parasitic bugs. You’d want to screen the habitat with mosquito netting. I like the shed with large fenced area posted by BB. I don’t know your budget or if you are good with tools etc. Ware Mamufacturing makes hutches already built. Petsmart might carry their stuff. Here is a link to a rabbit hutch with run. It will probably cost around $200 Petsmart might have it.

I’m confused about the stink you keep mentioning. Bunnies generally aren’t that stinky, unless they are un-neutered boys. If their litter boxes are kept clean they are neutered, there really shouldn’t be any smell except that of clean bunny and hay.

the page couldnt be found, i live in the piedmont of south carolina, it does get in the 90’s during the summer it never seemed to bother the bunniesas they are in a very shady location. i dont know my budget, but as my dreams for the hutch get bigger and better i have decided that it will be my christmas present, maybe if they know it goes towards chrismas they will be more willing to pay more for what i want. I would like to build it, me and my dad so i can have exactly what i want but ill try to find their webpage

  my trouble now is finding a good place for it, somewhere far enough that my parents wont complain of “the stink” close enough to have easy acess and ina location where it looks good .. this is a lot harder than i imagined..

Once your rabbits are neutered their smell should not be an issue. It should be non-existent. If your rabbits absolutely must live outside it would be safer for them close to your house where you can see them.
