Since grooming was under this section, I thought I’d post it here.

Sunny has been shedding like crazy lately. They aren’t necissarily *bald* spots, but the hair on her  back end is alot shorter than the other hair. She’s also been a little bit more playful..but that could just be her weird ways .

I’m wondering if these spots are normal? I took pics..the poor thing looks like she’s been dipped in oil on her butt.

As you can see there’s ALOT of loose hairs.

          Have you plucked her?

Karl looked like this (well, he had completely bold spots as well) after he had spent the holiday at my mum’s and she had been a bit too eager about the plucking.

Off an on, but I don’t think this was me who did it. My sister is always telling me to pluck her, (I guess the lose furs bug her) but I’m not constantly following her around plucking her.

My sister has told me she’s plucked her, so I’m guessing this was her doing .

              Could be

The new hair grows out and is of course shorter than the rest and that is why it looks strange. Karl was a bit too eager in the beginning about humping Molly and she looked like this as well as he was pulling out her fur. But at least your sister is getting rid of all the loose hair

She looks like it’s a normal shed.

I would comb her, not pluck her. It’s tempting to pluck, but a gentle comb or brush that works well will get the already loose fur off without pulling out a root that isn’t ready, like plucking can. Just comb or brush several times a day for the next few weeks. Watch the shorter spots to see if it’s growning in. That should be the baby fine undercoat and a new coat should grow in soon after the shed is over.

If you see any red inflammation or bleeding, that’s another story.

I have found that a damp warm wash cloth works really well to remove all the loose fur. I just run it over them and the loose fur sticks to it. They don’t seem to mind this either!
