We are carving pumpkins tomorrow and I was wondering if it is okay to give some small chunks to the bunnies.  Also if its okay should I give them the fruit with or without the peel? I wont give them the strings or seeds… just wondering about the pumpkin “fruit”.

        Thanks-  Rachel

I would say the basic chunks of the fruit of the pumpkin would be fine. I wouldn’t give the peel. Pumpkin, canned and mushed up, is often given to a bunny that needs help taking meds when ill, so it’s basically a good food. Like anything else, excessive amounts are too much of a good thing, or too sweet, so I would only give a few small cubes. Bunnies are really very small so small changes in their diet can have a big effect.

I’m picturing a bunny nibbling next to a carved pumpkin.

Yes-all squash are OK to give to buns. I was actually wondering about giving the peel but wasn’t sure. I’m sure they wouldn’t eat it anyways

3 out of my 4 buns love pumpkin! Almost as much as banana. lol But ive only given them the 100% canned pumpkin not anything straight from a fresh pumpkin. But im sure either way they would like it. My guess even if you tried to give the skin to your bun they wouldnt eat it.

Definitely – it’s very high in fiber. My vet told me to give Pepe some when he wasn’t eating. He didn’t particularly care for it though. Pumpkin without spices doesn’t seem to have much taste – I gave canned organic pumpkin so maybe the fresh one will have more taste.

Yup, pumpkin is a good home remedy to help the rabbit go poo. It is high in fiber but also somewhat slippery to help move everything.
