Ok I am annoyed and everyone says I am over reacting but I think I am right to be really MAD
Before I got my Bunnies I planned and paid for a 3 day boot camp in Phillip Island. I was to leave Melbourne at 3pm on Friday and be back in the afternoon of Sunday. Now on Friday i got up and gave all my guys at least 2 hours out of their cage (more to Bugz as he in fact runs around where Anya does about three binkies and goes to sleep!) so that done I e-mail the list of instructions off to the guy who said he would look after my Bunnies. I had cut up all their veggies and put them in seperate containers with their names on them in the spare fridge. Had pulled out three seperate serves of hay and put them in bags with their names in them (as my hay is hard to get out of it’s bag) and off I went on Friday knowing that my guys where all going to be feed watered and given time out of the cage on Saturday and then i would be back on Sunday.
This “friend” also said he would be around to water and feed my birds (some of which he owns half of) and my fish. Now my sister lives with me but really not that happy to do litter trays or the birds which is why I asked this “friend”.
I get home on sunday to find all my fish DEAD! The birds had not been feed and where out of seed and water, Bugz was out of water, Miffy had put so much paper in her water it was useless to her, Anya and Miffy where out of hay and my sister relaizing that the “friend” was not coming aorund had given the rabbits the cut up bird veggies (should rabbits eat sprouts?). All the litter trays where horrible the whole room stunk and to top it off Bugz was throwing himself against the cage door wanting OUT as he normally gets about 5 hours out a day, more so over the weekend to to be locked away for 48 hours really annoyed him no end.
A few people have said that I can’t be mad, my friend “forgot”, granted he had an exam and then went out of the piss with his mates but HELLLO I got up at 5am EVERY morning for 2 weeks to go feed his birds while he was away, I spent time with his Corella out of her cage even though the bird HATES me and attacks me I did this for him and he can’t even come around and top up water bowls for birds he owns half of! I am really annoyed that my fish died, there where fine on Friday and on Sunday all floating! What if Anya got gut statis? What if Bugz had dehidrated? I rang the emergency vet and they said just to watch that both where eating, pooping and peeing which they all are but still REALLY NOT HAPPY! I really think I have the right to be mad but no one else understand why I am so worked up about this
*end rant*
Oh dear. Sorry to hear about the fishies
And I do hope the buns will turn out to be fine. (((vibes and snuggles)))
thanks, I am sure they will be fine it was only one day but still, it’s not like they can find their own water or food if they run out
Geeze. That really does suck. I would be so livid with someone who did that. What if it was a child that he did this to? He would be charged with child endangerment and neglect! I don’t understand how someone could be so cruel. I would break of ties with this person and not let him back in unless he kisses your feet and begs for forgiveness. I mean, I understand them not being able to be out, and even the litter trays to a point (stinky, yes, but not deadly), but food and water are so important. At least your buns probably had unlimited hay which does keep the gut moving. In the future when you go away, maybe throw a waterbottle on the side of the cage just in case for the buns, especially if they are not used to being locked up as they will likely throw things out of frustration.
You are not over reacting…Anyone who says so? Your fish are DEAD. Your other pets could have died.
Not too mention that you’ve looked after pets for this friend before. I’d be furious. Beyond furious. Seriously it’s not like you were paying a stranger you didn’t know, and they took your money and ran. This is supposedly a friend and you should be able to trust them. *sigh*
{{Vibes for all your animals}} *hugs for you*
Oh my! That is horrible! I think the people that say “so” don’t really understand. Since I don’t have children, I think of my buns as kids and I would do anything for them. I agree with KytKattin, what if those were your kids you had him watch. You gave him directions on what to do and you told him to come over. If he couldn’t do it last minute he should have called to let you know. I would talk with him and tell him how upset you are with him and how you cannot trust him as much. I’d also make him buy you more fish…since he was suppose to feed them and they died (*hugs*) I’m guessing he probably thought you’re sister could do it since he didn’t come but if you’re sister could have done it then you wouldn’t have been asking him to come over.
I am really sorry about the irresponsibility and self centeredness of your lousy friend. I am upset for you. I have had the same thing happen to me, way in the past. I had some beautiful ferrets that I loved and were wonderful pets and a couple of them died from neglect when I had to leave and go away for a while and I could not do anything about it.
That is so selfish ![]()
I agree with everyone here – you are not over reacting. This is horrible.
I hope you bunnies and birds will be okay.
I would be angry to no end. If someone agrees to watch your animals, they agree to everything that involves. It’s not hard to fill some water dishes and give out prepared quantities of food. Heck, I know 13 year olds who would be responsible enough to do it, so no adult can have an excuse. Honestly, your friend sounds incredibly immature.
I hope all of your remaining pets will be ok.
Offfff I would chew this friend out but good. And never watch this friends pets again. And give him back his pets right away. Stick their cages on his front porch in the evening so they don’t over heat sitting out there all day. Drat.
This person deserves a major chewing out. Some punches would be in order too. Sorry about the punches but the thought is there. Not a good idea to really do that though.
And correct it isnt’ like they can take care of themselves. They are helpless and dependent on caretakers to take care of them. ![]()

I bet you felt so bad for them. Did your sister feed them? Perhaps next time you have to go maybe she could feed and water them. If she really doesn’t want to do anything for them a reputable pet sitter would be better than this careless person.
oh HELLLLLLLLLLLL no.
i would be furious.
agreed with BT- major chewing out!!
