It’s only a WIP right now, because it’s going in the kiln any day now!!

Everyone else in Pottery class is making vases, pots, bowls, mugs. What does Sarah do? She makes a bunny, of course!
It stands about a foot high and is made with a special kind of stoneware clay that my teacher mixes himself. It’s nobunny in particular, just a bunny.
I…felt like I was giving it a noserub/ face massage as I was sculpting its face. And then when I went home to groom Little-Bit…I felt like I was scuplting…
(and hollowing it out felt…)
..anyway! I’m praying and fasting over it and have consulted the Oracle Lagomorphia in hopes that it won’t explode/ crack/ crumble in the kiln. I’ve taken every precaution I can in order to assure its sturdiness, but there’s ALWAYS THAT CHANCE…so I’ve taken these pictures of the dried version just in case.
Fingers are crossed and wood has been knocked upon. Right now this is Schrodinger’s Bunny!
O…M…G…! 0_o
Okay, either I have to steal some of your talent, or I’m going to have to pony up for you to make me one of those, loppy style, please!
Beautiful! Just beautiful! Nuff’ said! ^_^
*keeping good kiln prayers going for you!*
Wow you are so talented!! That is awesome
Oh my gosh, thats wonderful! Wish I could do that! Hope it fires nice for you
*crosses Monkey’s ears for luck*
Lol! MimzMum you crack me up! I wish I had access to the pottery facilities longer than I do. But maybe if I get efficient enough at it I can try to work in some customs for you guys in between projects. ;P
Yup. Yep, that’s what I’ll try to do. No promises, but I’ll try. First come, first serve. Mimz is first in line with Mimzy I presume?
Monkey wants one of her ![]()
Okie doke! Monkey’s in second! ![]()
Edit: PS, this would be for optional gratuities only. NOT required at all. After all I don’t have to pay for the materials and I’m already getting paid in experience! And you guys deserve gifts for being part of the extended fam.
Oh, wow – that is beautiful!!!
Let us know what happens in the kiln! Fingers crossed!
G-O-R-G-E-O-U-S!!! If you’re taking orders Id LOVE one! Perhaps if you dont want payment I can make a donation in your name to a bunny rescue organization.
You could seriously go into buisness making those they are so so pretty I cant stop looking at the photos…. the little bunny nose, cute bunny tail, big floppy feet…. hehehe!
I hope that it makes it through the kiln okay!! Would love to see some after photos too!

Wow, that’s fantasitc!! Good luck with the kiln. I can’t wait to see it in finished form. Do you paint it or glaze it or something at that point?
Oh my gosh!!! That looks fantastic. I wish I was as artistic! Good luck with the firing!
Will you make me one of Leroy after Monkey!?!? I’m not sure how things work for you with the studio time and the materials etc, but if the class ends and you don’t have time to get to doing a sculpture for me, I’ll pay for supplies and pay you for your time or make a donation in your name to the local HRS. ![]()
wow that is a good work there
Wow! That is amazing!! I love bunny figurines and statues, they are taking over my house!!
Great job on that, I bet everyone was impressed! Are you going to make them for people? I would love a couple!!
Beautiful! Vibes that it makes it through the kiln.
I would love something like that for my yard when I move and make another fishy frog pond. I have all kinds of very cute statues like Bambi and Thumper for the yard and Sunflower babies. I do not have one gnome! Good! That is a very artistic job. I would love to make a neat statue of an opposum
Yep. The next step after the bisque kiln (if it survives) is to paint it with glaze and fire it in the glaze kiln.
That’s a great idea, you guys! If I get around to yours, instead of gratuities donate to a local bunny rescue organization!
Okay. So far I have:
Mimzy
Monkey
RachealB (which bunny?)
Leroy
To give everyone a fair chance, I’m going to go ahead and cut the list off there until I can get those done. I hope I can get around to these. Like I said, no promises, but I’ll try my very best! I have to work these in around projects in my spare time.
The end of the term is in early/ mid December, so I have unlimited access to the clay and kilns until then. After that I don’t think I’d be able to access the pottery studio even if I paid (unless I paid full tuition for another semester).
Binkles!!!!
Do you know how many of these types of buns I have all over my house?! I have at least a dozen (im obsessed I know lol). You REALLY should consider making these for profit!!! Ive seen these sell in stores here in OH for $50! My dad got me one that looks like yours from Macys that he got me for christmas so people definitely buy them.
I think you found your calling in life. You could be one of those animal sculptures and people would pay you anything to get one! Make sure those you make for people you sign somehow- for when you become famous. ![]()
haha yes, please do sign it! that way ill have a one of a kind valuable piece of artwork for when you get famous!
let me know when (if) you get to Leroy’s. I can send you some pix of him and my address etc for you to send it to when it’s done – i’ll pay for the shipping of course since im no where near florida
and if you don’t get to mine, no worries… i kinda feel like we ambushed you with this, lol. though i can hardly blame anyone, that statue is great. put up more pictures of the others you make!
Wow! That’s incredible. Very realistic. I love the tail!
You should make small ones and sell them to give the money to rabbit rescues! I think that would be so spiritually fulfilling to help animals with your talent!
On the plus side, it wont take much clay for Monkey’s ![]()
these are beautiful! i’ve gone to those little paint-your-own pottery places and its fun! maybe i’ll try the sculpting part too…
pics along the way of these bunny’s journey would be welcomed ![]()
OHHHH I want one too, Binkies, add me to the list!
That would be awesome to have a homemade bunny statue!
ETA: I wil pay too, no problem! Your work is amazing!
I most certainly WILL be sending you some money for this! You are an artist and deserved to be compensated for your work. *nods*
But if you like, I’ll also include something for a rescue in your name. No sweat.
AWW! I think we all want one now. You could probably make a pretty penny just selling these to BB members lol. I know I want them now, but I could never pick one of my buns. Then again, maybe Rose, that would be sweet. Hope this one pulls through in the kiln. ![]()
I really do wish I had access to the pottery facilities for longer. Unfortunately my teacher just dropped the bomb on us yesterday that this coming monday will be the last day for starting NEW projects…that basically just means that I’ll have to steal a bunch of clay and work on things at home.
But it does also mean that I’m becoming very pressed for time. I’ll get to as many of these as I can, I promise! Though they probably won’t be as big as this one is. More like 3-4″ statuettes I’m thinking at this point.
But..
..good news IT SURVIVED!! 8D Much to everyones’ surprise and delight! Though interestingly enough, it shrunk a good two or three inches. Lol, but it still looks the same, just slightly smaller. Now I’ve painted it with glaze and it should be fired in the glaze kiln soon…yes it has to go through TWO kilns. But the first kiln is the one that most pieces explode/ crack in. Once it’s through the first kiln it’s basically a solid piece of stone, so it’s pretty hard to break with just heat.
Woot, glad it made it through ![]()
Oh thank goodness! You will post pic after it’s glazed won’t you? I really love that back shot. You can just tell that the statue was made by hands that know rabbits.
Wahoo! it made it through the first firing!
Can’t wait to see the finished version.
Yayyy! Can’t want to see pictures of the finished piece!
Excellent!
Good to hear it made it through!
Now, for good glaze kiln vibes! I had a piece I’d glazed years ago in school go in and had the glaze turn out terribly for some strange reason…of course I think it was one of those 3rd grade projects…but still… lolz
Can’t wait to see the finished work! ^_^
