Oaten hay is great it’s what my vets recommend, oaten chaff is pretty much oaten hay cut up fine and for some reason my bunnies go nuts over it, i mix this with a small amount of pellets and they love it. Lucen hay is HIGH is fats basically so great for young bunnies (under 6 months) not so great for the wastelines of older ones. You can give this as a treat however.

Oaten hay is a great one for bunnies. Ticks all the boxes – high fibre, low protein, low calcium. We’re just coming into the hay season so you’ll be able to pick up some nice fresh stuff soon. Perhaps mix the lucerne and oat for a while an gradually put less and less lucerne. Hopefully after he’s picked all that out he’ll get hungry enough to sample the oaten. At 6 months he’s still growing so lucerne ok for him to have anyway. Do you feed pellets? If so do you limit them? Once limiting pellets – you may find they’ll eat more hay.

he only gets pellets when im on my way to bed – he eats LOADS of hay just not keen on the oaten , i think i will just mix them like you said jersey and faze it out over a month or two and just give him the lucerne hay as a treat

Oh, I forgot, you can feed them meadow hay also. It’s a mixture of different pasture/grasses. Mine has a bit of lucerne in it and that normally gets eaten first.
