First off I am not planning on keeping her, she is here as a foster untill we find her a forever home.
“Miffy” as i am calling her is approx 2 years old and spent those in a pet shop, well the pet shop started talking about eating her and i went in to buy some plants for my fish and one of the nice ladies put her in a box and said get her out of here now! So i did. I made her a temp home and will have to work something else out. Been in contact with BONIG the rabbit rescue in Melbourne and we are going to put her up for adoption.
At present she is tearing up the paper on the bottom of her cage and getting settled. Will be working with her on litter box training and trying to gain her trust.

OMG, how precious! *squee!* Who could ever think of …. nevermind, I’m just so glad you got her! ^_^
If I were any closer, she’d be tearing up paper in my house right now.
What a beautiful little loppy! ![]()
Poor miffy was looking really sad so i gave everyone their veggies and she just looked at the bowl so I moved Bugz to in front of her cage with his veggies and Anya on my lap with her veggies and got Miffy to watch them it was like a light bulb “Oh you mean I can eat these things?” Well i have never seen a carrot disapear so FAST after the first two bites it was like INHALE! and beg for more! I only gave her half a cup of greens and I call them dutch carrots (the ones that are small and have the green tops still on) tomorrow she will get them same and then slowly increase the amount of greens she gets as I don’t want to upset her tummy. I did a ring around, there is a chemist that my sister goes to that does an “animal of the week” they said if I do posters up they will put her up which is great!
Most likely she only got whatever crummy things a pet shop likes to feed it’s ‘inmates’. I know that Pip (our pet store bun) was totally clueless about good timothy hay, veggies and pellets, until we introduced them. It took her a few tries before she’d even risk a mouthful. Now she plows through her food with gusto!
That is good that you rescued her! She’s such a pretty girl! Poor bunnies don’t know good veggies, hay and pellets when they see them….glad she has learned to eat them! Keep us posted on her progress!
cute little rew lop! me wants.
Well she has settled and the poop wars that are going on in my house at the moment are driving me wild! Each rabbits get X amount of time out of the cage each night and Anya I found out can fit her head in Miffy’s cage so had to put up a barrier after Miffy bit Anya
Miffy romps around like she owns the place and Bugz spends all his time trying to get into Miffys cage and then I have to spend an hour trying to vacum up all the poop!
Got a call from a nursing home that might be intrested in taking her but we have to work on her litter training. They had a rabbit in the rec room before but he passed away at the age of 12 so he had a good life, going to go check them out and see what they are like and might set up a trial. Also had a call from a family that have always had rabbits and just lost their 8 year old so looking at getting another one. They have older kids and the rabbit was a free range and slept on the kids bed so if the nursing home does not work they are really intrested which is great!
Well those are some good leads.
Some questions for the nursing home – who is ultimately responsible for the rabbits care? What will happen if they decide they can no longer have a rabbit (this can happen if rules change for whatever the reason). Are they prepared for any vet bills that come along (even though the prior rabbit was healthy for a good long time, that’s obviously not always the case). Those type of situations in nursing homes and schools can be pretty tricky.
In my opinion from the sounds of the family, they certainly sound like a better option just because it’s a family with older children and they are experienced with rabbits.
Good luck on this – keep us updated.
Another thing – you can certainly ask both for a vet reference…
Sarita – The nursing home was found via my rabbit vet so I am thinking that if the vet told them to call me then that is a good thing however will have a chat to her this weekend.
That is a good sign to me too. It would be good to get her opinion too….at least they had a vet which is a positive. I always worry about that with these unconventional type rabbit ownerships.
I was the same however when they said that the vet told them to call me then I had to think about it. Seems the lady who runs the nursing home always had rabbits and the rabbit is “hers” as she lives on site however it is also the communities pet but she is responsiblie for it on a day to day base and they did get yearly check ups with the other rabbit so here is hoping that they get along. I also have another lady who might be intrested so things are looking up for miffy
Yay! I’m glad Miffy may have a home soon
Her litter training will probably also improve when she’s not doing territorial marking – is she going to be spayed? That will probably help a lot too. She is identical to my white lop Amelia, is she a big flopper? Amelia will flop for hours at a time ![]()
I would love to get her spay and anyone who adopts her I will recommend it however I don’t have the $220 to do her in my own pocket and there is only so much money you can spend on rescue animals (I have learnt this the hard way). I have asked a few vets if they can do her for cheaper and even approached the RSPCA but no one is prepared to help which is sad so we are just plugging along with the litter training. She is really good in her cage, outside of her cage is a bit of an issue so i am going to make her cage larger for her and hope this helps
Aw, she’s beautiful (looks like a twin of my guy, Bindi Loo). How could someone pass her up for 2 years? That absolutely breaks my heart. REWs are so beautiful, I can’t understand how people think they are “creepy”. When I look into those eyes all I see is “love”.
Thank you for helping her!!!
AV – let me know where I can send it and I’ll chip in $50 for the spay.
MarkBun, that is a nice idea however both the nursing home and the lady who is also thinking about getting her have expressed to me that they would be getting her spayed, if that falls through then I will look at working out how to spay her for a cheap as possible but at the moment I really want that responsibility to fall to the new owners as to me that means they are commited to her
Oh Oh Oh we might have found Miffy a Home! Ok the Nursing home fell through after one of the residents kids bought them a replacement rabbit, the family that where thinking about it I did not let them take her as the kids came and where WAY to rough with her and she was scared and stressed at the end of 10 mins so not going to happen (pretty much talked the family out of rabbits as a pet!) Then got a call from a guy but he slipped up and ended up telling me how he wanted to use her as a breeder so not going there. Then today out of the blue I got an e-mail from a lady who sounds really nice. She has two female rabbits at the moment, they are all out of the cage inside with cat doors to allow them outside during the day. We are going on a Bunny date Saturday week to see if they all get along (please miffy be a nice girl please please please)

Double Kudos’ on avoiding both of those!!!
Miffy is adorable
Hope the ‘bunny date’ goes well!! {{Miffy Behave Vibes}} ![]()
awww I hope she finds that furever home! She is just to cute and with what she has gone through she so deserves it. Paws are crossed here in our house!
I hope everything goes well on Saturday!
She’s beautiful!
You were very wise in moving on to another option. I hope the date went well for her.
Well as these things happen this lady found me and after a few chats with her and her coming to meet miffy she took her on Monday. Sounds like a great home and she is not worried if Miffy is up the duff and was going to talk to the vet about a spay if we can’t organise that then we will deal with the babies when they get here but hopefully we can get her spayed before then
That’s great. Good luck Miffy!
Glad you found her a home. I hope Miffy is very happy for many, many years ![]()
