Now that fall is here … and the Goldenrods are growing very well ….. I wanted to make sure they are ok for the buns to eat.

I read on the internet that the Goldenrod plant is safe to feed rabbits … the leaves, blooms and roots.   I always like to check here with my friends at Binky Bunny first before I feed anything new to my buns.   I live in North Georgia in the country and I love to find natural foods on my property for my  girls whenever possible.

Has anyone fed Goldenrods to their buns?

I see it on at least 1 toxic list, so I’d personally stay away from it.

I just checked out the link that Monkeybun posted. Why does it say corn is a safe food for rabbits? I was told that they cannot digest corn. It would be great if they could eat it. Thoughts?

I don’t agree with several on their list including corn – did you notice tha sweet potato & potato are on both lists?
                Avacado in not mentioned & it’s definately a no-no.

I think you guys are reading it wrong-Parsley is on the safe foods

Actually this is on the safe “Potato: but, not peelings, sprouts or leaves!” and this is on the not safe “Potato (eyes & new shoots, green parts)”
Safe “Sweet potatoes: vines or tubers ” not safe “Sweet potato “-which isn’t technically true-it’s fattening but not toxic they can eat all squash-sweet potatoes are a squash not a potatoe.

                    Avacado in not mentioned & it’s definately a no-no

Avacado is on the toxic list but it is spelled wrong and only lists leaves. The whole fruit can be toxic to almost all animals. “Avacadi (leaves) ”

At any rate : Many lists will not include everything. The way I will feed something different is if I cannot find it on ANY list. If it’s on even one, I just don’t So I would steer clear of goldenrod
