        Hi,

My foster mom and babies are all doing great.  I searched for my question and didn’t see anything that was helpful.

What I need to know is when do babies stop nursing?

When is it okay to take them from mom?

        Thanks,

        Laura

Baby bunnies are normally taken from their mom when they are 8 weeks.

According to rabbit.org babies stop nursing at approximately 7 weeks.

            Hi Laura,

Have you tried this website? http://www.rabbit.org/care/babies.html

I do not have much experience with baby bunnies personally since I’ve adopted all my bunnies from shelters.  I think that the best source is rabbit.org, but also think that getting in touch with a local rescue might help because they will have pregnant bunnies come in from time to time.

Yup, leave them til 8 weeks. That is what is SUPPOSED to happen. Unfortunately many petstores and breeders don’t follow this and will separate them much younger, as early as 4 or5 weeks! This can cause all kinds of health issues, but they don’t care, they just want the buns to go while they’re still impossibly young and tiny.

How long will you have them for? Are they going back to the shelter at 8 weeks, or will you be keeping them until they are altered?

Eight weeks at least. They can often stay with mom a few more weeks, but may start humping and fighting with each other (That’s natural). At eight weeks you can seperate into girls and boys too.

I will be returning them at 9 weeks. They are already humping, digging, etc…

As of last night they were still nursing, they are so noisy!

                    Oh, yes, sorry, pics…

I wish I could find good homes for them myself.

                            I think they are Rexes.

They are on my blog too.

When momma is no longer with the babies, should her food gradually be switched from what she is on now (alfalfa pellets) to timothy pellets?

Aren’t they cute.  I just love baby bunnies.  When they get about 5 weeks they can get messy little urine here poops there. But they are sooooo cute.

They were super messy at 4 weeks.  But they are litter box trained now!
