Hey guys!
I’ve been really busy lately, so I haven’t been online as much as I wanted…. and I’m sorry to say, that I probably won’t be online as much as I was this summer. College is getting crazy intense, and I’m taking a full course load, so I’m pretty much swampted with homework…
Anyway, that aside, I’ll try to get on here as often as I can and I’ll try to keep up with everyone on here!
So I have a question: I just got new furniture for my living room and dining room! I’m really excited about it. I’d had quite enough of the dorm life, and then eating dinner off of a card table and sitting on a futon to watch tv in my apartment
Now, I know I probably didn’t start out the right way with Leroy since I let him climb all over my futon and do whatever, but now that I have this nice new furniture, I really want to keep him off of it so I can keep my furniture nice. Those sharp little nails and tiny white and grey furs flying everywhere are a bit too much for my OCD side, lol. So. Does anyone have any suggestions for me? I’ve tried the water bottle and spritzing him out of nowhere as soon as he jumps up, but it doesn’t phase him. Right now, I’m just picking him up and putting him down as soon as he gets up on the couches. I don’t want to put vinegar or Bitter Apple on it, in case it stains – and too much vinegar STINKS. Nor do I want to have to get those plastic covers old ladies put on their furniture.
So any other suggestions would be a huge help!
At least he’s not a chewer, otherwise I’d be completely paranoid about my dining room furniture and coffe/end tables!
I know that with new furniture part of why you picked it is what it looks like but you may have to make a choice here. Cloth covers would protect your furniture but it of course may not fit in with your original decorating plans. I can certainly sympathize with you. I’ve been shopping around for some new furniture but haven’t found something I’m happy with yet. I was worried about the same things you are and finally came to the conclusion that I brought Freya home to love unconditionally and promised I’d make her happy. I guess it’s kind of selfish of me to change the rules on her and expect compliance. With this in mind I’ve started shopping at outlet stores. I do not want to spend $2000 on furniture just to get tiny tears, bite marks and fur on it. It’s also possible that I am way more gone than I think I am as a bunny slave when I make major purchases based on Freya.
I understand how you feel! It’s important to have a nice place to live.
I think you have to be persistent – the problem is that you have allowed him before on your furniture, why not know…I understand his confusion.
I think you should consider confining him to your bedroom and visit him in there if you are not opposed to him being on your bedroom furniture.
hmm you both have good points… i didnt spend a ridiculous amount of money on the furniture so over time, ill chill out about lol but it just got delivered this morning and the stinker is already trying to sit up there like he owns it.
but if I were him Id be confused too!
Lol, I totally understand. You didn’t buy new furniture for him, you bought it for you and damn it all you want to be able to enjoy NICE furniture. At least for a little while. Of course it’s also new and exciting and doesn’t smell like him yet so he probably feels like he’s got a lot of work to do. I don’t think my husband understands that once you have a bun that many major decision will have to consider the bun. I had to explain to him why we absolutely, under no circumstances will ever own a recliner. He’ll probably get the hint about the same time you stop caring and start wanting him to join you up there. Murphy’s law and all that.
When I CAN get my own furniture, it will match the colors of my bunnies so that the fur on them will be unnoticeable. ![]()
Repetition Repetition Repetition.
Because Bunners has complete run of the house, it was important that he learned some boundaries. Due to his hormones, he’s not allowed on the bed, because all he wants to do is make it his own. I moved a bench to the end of my bed for him, and now that’s “his” bench. If he’s playing, he’ll occasionally get fired up and land on the bed, and all I have to do is click my fingers, say something like his name or no, etc. and he hops right onto his bench. It’s almost like “My bad, sorry, back on my bench now.”
He likes to be near me, so I don’t want him to feel left out, or on another level, but making sure he has a safe alternative is really what helped in my house.
Here is a pic of him on his bench

Aw, Scooter, that’s such a cute pic! Bunners looks so proud on his bench, with his big ear sticking up and his legs all sprawled out. I love buns when they’re kickin’ back. Your bedroom looks nice too- wish mine was so neat and elegant-looking.
I really don’t have any helpful advice to give Barbie except to be consistent and persistent in retraining her bun, and I definitely sympathise with her desire to have a nice house and happy rabbit too. Mainly I wanted to chime in and tell Adalaide not to feel bad, there’s someone here that is more enslaved to bunnies than her. That would be me of course- I refuse to get a new couch because BunBun has made it his daily game to remove all the stuffing from the cushions. I tried a couch cover- he ate right through it to get to his stuffing. Whenever I clean and vacuum, BunBun goes to work right afterward, tearing apart the couch and scattering white fluff all over the living room. This is quite impressive to company, I’ve found. When I try to reprimand BunBuns, he nips at me, then hops off in a rage to chase Nelli around and work off some aggression. One time when I really got firm with him, removing him from the couch repeatedly, he waited til I as sleeping and snuck back to the couch and peed on it. Horrible little bun- lol.
Your room is gorgeous!
But… Where are the chewed on books? Where are the NIC grids stacked in every corner? Where are the stray poos on the carpet and trails of hay?
LMAO! ;o)
Yea, ummm about that… I could probably steal Adalaide’s signature… CDO in full effect! haha, what you can’t see is the chewables in every corner of the room, and the clear packing tape on everything to deter the little teeth and claws, and the little poops that get caught in the faux fur rugs!
But I will pass your compliments on to my sister, the Interior Designer in my life, she’s brilliant at making my space cush, but allowing it to be liveable for me and bunners. I’ll have to take a pic of my bookcases so you guys can see how we bunny proofed those.
I have to say, that is probably the thing I have most appreciated about Bunners, he’s probably a lot like a big Mastiff dog in the sense that he’s just kinda big and relaxed. He has his moments, but they are much more easily containable.
