I am so sad.   I was cryign like a baby last nite.   I was doctoring Cottons lip.   I was moving his hair off his lip.  I felt a soft squishy lump.  I pulled the hair apart and didn’t see a scab.  I saw 2 bleeding spots though.  He kicks when I treat him and sometimes his hind feet get free and cuts him.  His nails are short too

Seems like it might be an abcess from his kicking and scratching himself.  OH yi… I hope that junk on his lip isn’t spreading.,

Oh dear.   So we are about to leave for the vet to have it checked out.  We were going to go tomorrow but they had a time for hiim today.

Yi is this ever gona end.  Here I am beating my head against the wall.   The vet staff  know us by now all I need to say is Cotton bunny and lip in the same sentence.  sheesh     However good news his lip does look better.  HE is very active today too. HE got up this morning running about.  Then I treated his lip.  HE wasnt’ too happy about that. lol

Oh no…please let us know what the vet says.

He’ll never be happy about you fooling with his lips and putting all that yucky stuff on it.

Hugs to you and Cotton and Princess Ruby too.

            (((hugs)))

Yes, keep us updated please. Poor little guy. While I feel like everyone in the world deserves to know Freya, I certainly don’t want the vet staff to recognize me when I go in. At least he seemed happy until it was time for you to ruin his day.

I wonder if rabbits can get rodents ulcers like cats do on their lips? My kitty Sasha gets a small pinkish red lump on her bottom lips. It looks like she is wearing lipstick!! It is called a rodents ulcer and sterioids get rid of them. It is a common thing that is not harmful. I hope your bunny has something that is harmless also.

(((COTTON & BT))) BT, finding the lump may help discover what is going on. Hope his vet appointment helps sort that out. If he’s happy and healing after all this time, take heart in that.

                      Update time.

good news it isn’t spreading.  IT is a scab on the skin but not the kind that is ready to come off.  His vet said to keep treating him with this stuff it is doing something.  His lip is a little red but he kicked and scratched himself so maybe that is why.

I have to be so careful when he starts kicking and gets those hind feet uncovered I immediately pick him upright so he won’t scratch himself.

The vet was able to see the new things I found.  I had to hold cotton on  my chest and he was still for her to check him.   The assistant came up with that idea cause he let her see his lip when I was holding him otherwise he squirms about and tries to jump onto someones chest shoulder/arms   silly boy.

We talked about his quality of life.  It seems real good.  He darts about when he has somewhere he wants to go.  lol.  Seems very active lately too.

OH if this isn’t healed by Nov 1 his vet will see him first of course.  Then will stop treating him and do a biopsy in 3-4 weeks.  His biopsy will go to a rabbit specialist.  That sounds good so I agreed with this plan.  Will do 2nd biopsy if needed.

Cotton is real fiesty.  He is feeling better.  When I hold him trying to keep him from licking his treated lip I sing pet him and he purrs.  He seems more active too. His tooth purrs are nice n loud again.  There is no reason to put him down.  I would  be lost without him.  I won’t give up on him.  He depends on me to care for him and I will do my best for him.

The first biopsy went to the lab that this vet office uses. The vet isn’t sure if this lab has someone familiar with rabbit stuff.  So off to the specialist.

Hopefully it won’t have to go that far.

Rodent ulcer.  Yes that is what the vets thought it was.  He was treated with steroids anti inflammatory.  It worked great the first week after that it had no change.  No change on 2nd and 3rd week.  His tummy got upset too.

I ruin his evenings too.  After treating him as it gets later about the time he usually comes for pettings I have to go get him and carry him to the couch.  Then he gets all excited agian.

He is lying his head completely down chin and all now that he feels better.  He hasn’t done that in a while.   He definitely feels better.

Cotton is going to be ok.  Just going to keep trying.  We will eventually get him cleared up.

BT that all sounds so much better!

This is such a long ordeal for both of you, but he is finally reacting to a treatment that is working, so I think with continued persistence it will finally clear up. His return to some of his more normal (for him) behaviors is the best sign of all. He is better and he’s learned to cope with it.

They do catch on to the fact that your treatments daily go along with the feeling better part. Spockie soon became used to his morning meds and cooperated. Cotton’s smart. He knows.

I did a noo noo.   I couldn’t help it .  The scabs on his chin neck area I pulled them off.  His hair came off with it ooooops.

The things were big white flakes and little white flakes.  It peeled off to a certain point.  I am treating that area now too with the soap chlorhexaderm and iodine.

The vet said to continue with this treatment.   I wonder if this is a fungus.    The vet said it isn’t a reaction to the chrlorhexaderm.

It is it this stuff spreading which the vet said it isn’t then I am getting under it to clear it up.  Poor Boo.

Guess what.   HE is laying atop his hay box with his head completely flat.   So good to see he can do that.   He used to do that all the time when I petted him and he is now doing it again.   HURRAH Cotton. Cotton has been such a good sport about all this.  HE is getting frustrated since I pulled the flakes off.  I think that upset him.  So I try to ignore that part

I know how you feel-I am a ‘picker’ too and it would be hard to resist plucing those scabs off

I think you and the vet are right-he has a very good quality of life. He is King Cotton of course!!!

Us pickers just drive me crazy to not  pick it off.  lol

I am no longer putting the scrub on his hair.  I try not to .   In case it is causing a reaction which I pick off.

He is cleaning so much today.  I am so glad he is feeling better.  I put him some fresh oat hay and he dove right in.

Everytime I leave the kitchen he runs over to see if I have something he likes and begs for it.  He was atop the hay box and I went and got me an apple.  He heard me eating maybe even smelled it from there and zoom he ran right over to beg.  So hard to resist him.

He is getting so much fruit since I treat him while I work on his lip.  He gives big ol tooth purrs when I sing to him and pet him.  I am so happy for him now.

His lip is almost healed.  Has one little scab left.   I am using his soap once a day now and the iodine.  HE is feeling so much better. The lip isn’t swollen anymore either.

Just the flakes on his skin and when a flake comes off the hair goes with it.    HE has a bald spot the size of a silver dollar.  I have restrained myself from picking the stuff off.  He doesn’t like it when I do that.

He plays chase with me in the morning when I go to get him for his treatment.

Imagine  a 6.00 bottle of surgical scrub doing the trick.   Even his vet is astounded.

                                                          ok a cotton update.

Well I have stopped the 2x a day and doing 1x a day. treatment.   OH the scaly skin and lump that was from his skin drying up with that scrub.  HE has a huge bald spot there now.  I had to peel it off  poor Boo.

The scabs came back.  I believe cuz I wasn’t getting much of the scrub solution on the cotton ball and it didn’t lather up like b4.   So I am putting a good dousing of it on the cotton ball and it is making a lather again.

The scabs they come off when they get wet and scrubbed with that stuff.   This is why I think I may have to continue this forever.  When I stop they will be back.  But his lip isnt’ swollen anymore and he eats normal he even started digging smoothing and grooming my shirts with me in them again.   OH and leaving some Cotton scented poops on me.  Thats not so great but oh well.  lol.  HIs way of showing love

I stopped putting iodine on it and started putting gentian violet.   I got it from a Brownings health supply store.   When I was young My Mom used to put  that in my buns ears when they got ear mites.     She read that somewhere.     I do kjnow it is safe for buns.

Actually thought gentian violet is an antifungal and an antiseptic.    The chlorhexderm scrub is for bacteria  fungus and I think virus.   Microorganisms  for sure.

He has purple hair now and I have purple fingers.   IT stains.  I try to put it just on his lip but I miss sometimes.  So if you see his pic with purple no he isnt’ turning purple it is just the gentian violet   lol.

At Nov 1st I will stop using the gentian violet if it isnt’ working.  Besides I hate purple stains.  Beautiful color but I dont’ like it on Cotton or my fingers.

OH and I will take him to his vet.   If by Dec 1 it his lip scabs won’t remain gone for good  then most likely a biopsy in Jan.

We are having a very very tight month come november.  However I am going to ordre Cotton another willow square and some mountain hay.  Hu bby can be mad all he wants.   IT is his fault we are tight in Nov by the way.  So there.  ….

I may post pics of his bald spot with the iodine on it poor Boo.

I’d like to see the lavender version of Boo. He sounds like he’s cooperating and happy to be feeling better and playing with you again.

lol a purple Cotton Boo     ok I will get a picture.  No patience to deal with computer issues tonite and for the next 2 days I doubt I will have time for computer.

Hopefully thursday or Friday I can get to it.  It does look a little funny a purple bottom lip and some purple hair like a shadow  lol.

I think that purple stuff is doing something good too.  His scabs dried up but it doesn’t hurt his skin like the peroxide.  It is too harsh for his skin.    OH and his hair that fell out due to the scrub drying him up  it is growing back.   He has a little peach fuzz now lol.

IN a way it is a good thing it came out cuz he would really be purple all over lol…

I wonder if I could get away with putting him on Ripleys belive it or not.

Did your vet recommend the gentian violet?  I would be concerned that it does not sound as though you are treating a yeast infection but a bacterial infection since the scrub is working.  And that using on open sores will give a “tattoo” affect and permantly stain the area purple.  And there are some side affects also…..

                                                                    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gentian_violet

If your vet recommended it, I would continue the treatment.  But if your vet did not specifically tell you to use gentian violet I would ask the vet or discontinue using it.

Yes I did see that about the tattooing of the lip.   Most like ly his vet never heard of it.  She will be in tomorrow.  I plan on taking him in next week.  Then we can talk about the gentian violet and see if it healed for good.

I think I should continue treating him cuz the biopsy if he needs another (which I think he will)  I can’t do til january.  $ is tight right now.   I would at least like to keep his lip from getting red and swollen again and hurting if I can’t do biopsy til Jan.  That would be 2 months without treatment.

Hmm I probably can do it in Dec  and do the post dated check thingy starting in Jan.   I want to give this a chance to see if it works.

Someone a biologist seems to really think it is a lymphoma thing.  Well whatever it is hopefully this rabbit specialist will find something in his biopsy.   Poor guy .     I bet once I stop treatment he will be so happy and fly around the living room binkying all over.  Then will come the biopsy after the 3 weeks has passed.   That way we can be sure the scrub won’t be affecting the results.
