I could not find much onthe topic here… we are seriously looking for a friend for Indy now. One of the places we are looking at sent me an application… one of the questions asks if we can bear the financials of owning a rabbit, including yearly molar grinds?! Is that entirely neccessary? Indy has been to the vet a few times and I dont think he has any teeth issues and the vet has never mentioned this before. Can someone tell me if its something that they actually need done yearly?! Thanks!

No, they don’t need to be done unless your rabbit has molar spurs. I guess what they want to know is are you prepared for any medical expenses that may arise…but I could be wrong. I would probably ask them to elaborate on this and let them know that if your rabbit needs dental trims you would be prepared to pay for this expense (if you are prepared to do this that is.)

Sometimes vets will want to do a trim if the rabbits molars are growing too long as a precaution but it is not something that has to be done yearly.

I have a rabbit who gets molar trims regularly because he has molar spurs so I must do this but it’s not a prevention, it’s a necessity.

Thanks Sarita, this is what I thought… the way the question is worded makes it sound like it HAS to be done. We’re going to try to make a trip out to this place and meet the buns soon, so I’m sure we’ll have lots of questions for them anyway.
