is it bad for bunnies to breathe loudly after exercise? by loud i mean, if you go close up to him, you can hear him breathing. he just ran, exercised and binky-ed a lot. is it bad or normal for them to breathe quite loudly after all that exercise?

donut’s been normal. it’s just this time that i’ve heard him breathe.. quite loudly.

i’m bringing the vet a fecal sample (to make sure no more coccidia!) on tuesday as tomorrow is a public holiday. i will also bring this matter up with the vet and ask them what’s wrong.

i just need some idea on what is going on for now.

I don’t think so unless he is in distress and breathing through his mouth.

I think heavy breathing after exercise is normal for all animals.

I can sometimes hear Otto breathing through his nose, especially after he’s run around a bit. I definitely keep an eye on it to make sure there isn’t some other respiratory problem, but so far it seems normal for him.

My buns will run around for awhile and then they flop against the wall (usually by the air conditioning vent) and I can hear them breath and see their chests rise and fall rapidly. This returns to normal within just a few minutes. If the bun seems distressed or the breathing does not quickly return to normal, then I would be concerned.

Yes, that’s what I was thinking – it depends on whether his breathing returns to normal in a few minutes.

It’s often a good idea to jot down these little questions to bring with you on a vet visit. Then you can just go down the list so you don’t forget to ask something. They even recommend that when you visit your own doctor.
