As requested, probably more pertinent to our south of the equator bunny slaves since they are now moving into warmer months

You can use juice but I usually dilute it a bit with water so it’s not too sugary-and pour it into ice cube trays. You can also put small peices of fruit into the tray (so they are in the center of the ice) or a sprig of mint (NOT for mojitos-for the bunnies!!)

And then they are the perfect size for a bunny popsicle-nice and small

We’re far north of the equator, but still in the 90s here in FL so it will be handy year round.

Don’t mean to sound dumb (but I will anyway) but what do you use for sticks? Willow pieces? Plain popsicle sticks?
Do you wait until it’s mushy and half frozen, then push the fruit piece and stick into the center?
Can you tell I don’t have kids?

Lol that’s a great idea! My sister and I used to do that! I don’t think you really need a stick. Unless you wanted to hold the stick for your bun while the bun is eating the popsicle. I mean, either way, the bun is going to make a nice big mess for his slave to clean up! Pam, if you do want to put sticks in, let the popsicles freeze a bit and then push the sticks in so they stand up, then freeze them all the way. I would use probably willow sticks or maybe, as a treat, small twigs of an apple tree.

I’ve noticed that Leroy loves eating cold things. Though I’ve heard cold things aren’t the best for their sensitive digestive systems, I put all his veggies in the fridge and give them to him right out of the fridge. He won’t eat them if they’re not chilled! He’s pretty bad about begging, so I have to admit, a couple times this summer I’ve broken off a small piece of my popsicle and let Leroy eat them. The first time I did, I was actually surprised he actually ate it. I thought he was just begging because he saw me eating something! I figured it wouldn’t do much harm since it’s just flavored, sugar free, water, but I’ll have to try making him some more natural popsicles!

Another idea…. Freeze slices of bananas (btw, frozen bananas are yummy for humans too! ) or other small bits of fruit as an easy treat.

What great ideas! I love the idea of the frozen bananas also since I usually (have to) share a bite or two with Beelsee. This way she can nibble at it slowly instead of gobbeling it down all at once!

LOL RP I dont’ put sticks in because they couldn’t hold the sticks Just give the icecube/popsicle

Awww yes Barbie-frozen fruit is great because they eat them much slower -Kahlua LOVES frozen ‘nana. And Chuck will eat any frozen fruit.

-on the frozen fruit topic-if you buy papaya (we all know how good it is for them) there is a ton of fruit-so you can chop it and then put it in water and freeze it. Then use it all year round. I just finished a papaya we’ve been working on for six months

Sorry Guily -sometimes I don’t explain very well

You put the chopped papaya in a container with water and just freeze it-then to defrost quickly I just put some in a strainer and run cool water on it!

                            Good stuff

Papaya is generally expensive-but it yeilds a ton of fruit-that’s why I asked my bro (A chef) how to freeze it

cool idea! i might just wanna try this as summer is coming soon (here at australia)! just wondering, is it okay if i just grind up the apples and freeze them in the ice-cube trays instead of buying juice?

What a good idea! My bunnies have all requested said popsicles.

The frozen banana slices are also a really good idea. I do this with my bananas that are starting to get a little brown so that they don’t spoil. The best part is that it takes the bunnies about 5 minutes to get through a frozen banana slice, whereas it takes them about 1 second to swallow an unfrozen banana slice whole

Lol im going to make them with willow leftovers, why not they might think its cool.  You could wait till its half frozen before sticking the stick in, but when I made them when I was a kid we put foil over the ice cube tray and stick a toothpick through and it stayed.  Im sure you could do the same with willow bits.

Absolutely!! As long as you don’t add sugar or oil or stuff like that-do what you want It’s a great treat

ooo we always buy a bunch of bananas (for kc too, not just the bunnies, hehe) and never can eat them all before they go brown. I’m going to make some of these tonight!

Thats a good idea with the bananas. i gave up buying them cuz I never managed to eat em before they turned brown. Maybe now if Monkey likes em, we can do that

I stuck some little banana slices in the freezer but haven’t tried giving them to Herself yet.

A vet once told me never to use water from the fridge because it was too cold on bunny tummies, so I am surprised they can handle frozen treats.
(and obviously like them.) What do I watch for if it disagrees with her? Mush poop or gas? (Brain freeze?)

                                            heheh brain freeze

Same as you always watch for-it’s fruit so be vigilent. We give frozen stuff in the summer-and they love it

I’ve never heard anything about refridgerated water…that seems to be something that goes around from time to time, people thinking warm or cold water is better to drink because it burns more calories, agrees better, etc etc.-but it’s been shown water temp doesn’t matter at all (for humans) so I wouldn’t think it’s any issue for the buns =-plus ice in there water is a nice treat in the summer.

Are frozen grapes/regular grapes a thumbs up or thumbs down for bunnies? Too much sugar?
