Hi, Pepper and Dylan have a standard hay rack and the hay gets everywhere.  If the hay is short it just falls out and once it’s hit the ground it seems that it’s not good enough to eat.   Does anyone know of any kind of hay dispenser that will hold the hay in and not be too difficult to get hay out??  I had a search for products but without luck.  It’s not possible to use cardboard and plastic may be a bit dodgy as Pepper will eat just about anything.

try using a rectangular kitty litter box/pan? it takes up a bit of space but it’s great cause you won’t get a heap of mess everywhere. for my bun, i just got a rectangular kitty litter box/pan and filled it with hay. he goes in it to eat and comes out when he’s done. onlya few bits and pieces of hay drops out but i just put it back in

I ziptied cubes onto our cube divider-so that it’s sort of like a hay rack. Hay still falls out but they seem to like the delivery method. The hay I feed has long strands though-I think it’s first cut timothy so it does do well in a rack with large holes.

So far-there’s no magic bullet for hay delivery. It’s a battle-hay gets everywhere and they don’t eat it. Vaccums don’t eat hay well either. The best you can do is make sure they are eating it and sweep up the mess

i have a plastic box that i got at the grocery store- it has gridded sides instead of solid sides- like the sides are kind of like NIC cubes? i tried to find a picture but no luck. i hope that makes sense.

I recycle the hay that I sweep up by putting it back into the rack to give it a second chance. If I leave it on the floor for too long somebunny ends up peeing on it! — But to answer your question: logically, in order to get the hay out of a rack with ease it also falls out easily when the rabbit pulls strands of it. Hay mess is inevitable.

Thanks.  I’ve tried putting a seperate box for hay but Pepper just gets in it and uses it as a hay rack.  I pick up all the waste that gets dropped and put it back in the rack.  I was just wondering if there were alternatives.

I’m really liking this solution that Balefulregards posted in her bonding thread for Coco & Jackson.  Something that I plan to try.  I currently put it at front of litterbox but it ineivitably  gets all over the floor anyway.  I think this set up would prevent that somewhat.

Ok, I think I’ll give that a try.  Thanks.
