Well.. she’s NOT preggo, it turns out. Yey! Huge sigh of relief on my part.. and probably her part, too.
Annnnd… she’s having her first “play date” with a potential bunneh pal, tomorrow afternoon. We.. the rescue and I.. have been discussing what is best for the special girly, and it’s been decided that she will go through some brief intros with some altered boys.. to see if she’s interested in a bunneh pal. We’re doing this before she’s altered herself, to kind of aid the process with her still being “fragrant” (hormones, etc.) to a potential boy pal. If all goes well, she’ll choose a buddy.. they will bond here for a few more weeks …and then she will go back for her own alteration in mid October.
I checked out some potential candidates, today.. without Miss Bella.. and I am really hoping she chooses the little Rex black boy. He’s a total sweetheart ..and he’s smaller than she is.. so hopefully a non-threat …….and she’ll fall head over ears in love with him. Of course, if she doesn’t ..and even if she decides she wants to be a lone bunneh (for all she’s been through) …or chooses one of the other many handsome young bunneh boys.. that is absolutely acceptable, too!

Oh.. and she is sooooo over the “blank, invisible stare” thing that she was doing after the capture/rescue. She makes eye contact.. perks up and looks right at me, when I call her name or talk to her about something …and we are taking turns with the submission thing. She actually licks my hand some days… and still lowers her head for me, on occasion (and she hasn’t nipped me in quite some time).

That sounds great.
She loves you now – kisses! If you find that either she or the boy bunnehs are too agressive, undoubtedly due to her hormones, I’d suggest you just go ahead and get her fixed and have it over with. That way once she’s ready, she can bond without a break in the process which can result in a slight setback between them. It may mean waiting a few more weeks, but you can always begin to prepare your living space for the new guy, since they won’t be together totally right away regardless.

I hope she likes the one you like, but I do have to say that bunnies usually have ideas of their own! Remember when you are having her meet other bunnies for the first time that it is a good sign for them to ignore each other. It might seem to you that they are not interested in one another, but ignoring is one of the ways that bunnies communicate to each other that they are not a threat to each other. Also, if they start grooming themselves in front of the other, that is also a good sign because it shows that they are comfortable and not threatened by each other. -
Thanks Everyone… especially, for the “signs” to look for! I’m sure those will be helpful.. to me, at least! (I trust the folks at this rescue to know the process, etc. …but I will probably have to drink some chamomile tea for the occasion
)Oh.. btw, I did not make the play date this afternoon. My husband and I went out for a late breakfast and both of us got sick from improperly cooked and/or spoiled sausage. Blah! (We’ve just finished fasting ..Ramadhan, and eating during the day is a readjustment, so we really didn’t notice the icky sausage link until we’d both taken a bite of it……. ewww!) Anyway.. we are rescheduled for tomorrow.
I haven’t told Bella yet, so I don’t think she’s disappointed.

Bella was not overly impressed with any of the bunny dudes, today. She didn’t get to meet everyone, however. Some of the boys.. including the little boy that I really like.. have been recently altered and are not quite “safe” for girly interactions. The Vet says 2 weeks is enough time, but I’m weary of that ..with Bella’s past.. and want to wait 2 more weeks, just to be absolutely certain. Call me overprotective, if you want.
She did get a pedi/mani while we were there… and she’s on another med to clear up some slight bloat. She’ll have another flotation done in 2 weeks, to be sure her coccidiosis levels are in the “healthy range” again.
She got all kinds of rave reviews from the folks that saw her 4 weeks ago… and the improvements she’s made, since then. I’m a proud Mommy, for sure… but I know she has a way to go, yet.
Anyhoo… more news when there is news.. on the play date adventure

jerseygirl.. Bella is just shy of 5lbs. as of yesterday. I want her to gain a bit more, but I’m happy with the pace she’s gaining, too. I can feel her bone structure now.. but not sharp protrusions fighting angrily under a bag of fur, like those first few days.
The more I read.. here.. about the “cons” of introducing her before she’s altered, the more I just want to wait for another play date… until after she’s been altered and had time to recover and readjust to her home. I mean, she’s quite comfortable here…. and she was sooo happy to come home and see “her house”, after yesterday’s events…. but I still think there will be some re-settling issues after she has an overnight at the Vet (for her spay and teeth issues).
What do you all think? What would you recommend? I trust you all here, as well. I just want to be sure she’s getting all that she deserves. Would you continue with “safe” intros and play dates, now? Or.. would you wait until after her alter and recovery, and then work on intros and play dates? Pros and cons of both would be greatly appreciated.

That’s really wise-there’s no point rushing
You can’t bond until after she’s fixed anyways. I would continue to ‘oogle’ buns on the website and maybe myself go to meet them but you might as well wait until she’s fixed and recovered
