I KNOW I need to get Lucy spayed.  She’s getting out of control! I can barely put my hand in her cage to give her food without her punching me! She grunts and punches all the time.  My mother has taken to calling her my little boxer.  I know it’s because she needs spayed.  Once she’s out and running around, she’s fine.  She’s just VERY territorial.  What frustrates me is I had an appointment, all the money saved (my vet costs $330) then I got sick  I guess I’m just frustrated.  I know it isn’t her fault by any means, and I know she’d be happier spayed.  Time to save up again

I’m sorry you were sick. So you had to spend what you saved on your own medical care instead?
Would your mother lend you the $ to spay her right away, then let you pay her back? i think it would be helpful for all of you in the short term.

Also, I would recommend you let her out for a quick run unfed, put her food in while she’s out, clean her house a bit, then herd or lure her back in for breakfast afterwards. I have that as my morning routine with Sammy. She won’t even let me pick her up, but she invented a system where I can rattle the treat bottle, tap a very small treat on her food dish, and she will go in by herself to start her breakfast with a treat. I mean a piece broken off of a veggie snack type of treat. I close the cage, and my little boxer is in a time out for breakfast.

Yes, rabbits can be this way. Spaying will certainly help but also make sure you aren’t invading her territory too. Let her out before you feed her and clean her area. Usually too aggressive rabbits are extremely smart and they really need a lot of stimulation so play time outside of the cage is a must.

            Glad you are feeling better.

I know it can be rough. So sorry you have to go through this right now. Hopefully Rabbitpams suggestion of borrowing the $$ from your mom and then paying her back monthly or ??? may work.

Sarita – so true about aggressive rabbits being smart. My experience is that they are very quick learners IF they want to cooperate, and I swear I catch them “pondering” a way to figure something out.  Both Vivian and Rucy  do/did that

Awww I’m sorry -It can be hard to go through the teenage stuff with them. I’d do what Rabbitpam suggested-just avoid putting your hands in her cage-feed or clean when she’s out and about.

The other thing you can do is use a peice of cardboard to ‘block’ her boxing and put food in when she’s blocked-just hold the peice in front of her so she can’t box you, then pull it out after you’ve put the food in
