I had some banas that hadnt been eaten yet so I decided to make my buns some banana chips! Food dehydrator is a great thing to have! Drying your own fruit is so much cheaper!

That looks great! I want one. Must smell good when it dries.
Have you tried drying carrot slices? Would that work?

This is the first thing I have ever tried. I am going to buy some more fruit and more veggies. I wanted to do some apple slices but my husband got worried cause they werent organic. You could dry anything you wanted probably!

Yummy! My rabbits won’t eat banana chip – I cannot understand why, how can you not love banana chips! It sounds like a great idea to keep from wasting them too…how long do the home-made dried fruits and veggies keep?

They can last for months. You can put them in the fridge too.

Pineapple and papaya can be done too!!!!

I also use my dehydrator once a week to make croutons!!! I love to buy the different types of breads at the bakery to serve with dinner, but with only 3 in the family, we never eat it all. So each Wed. (shopping day is Thurs.) I cube all the leftovers up with my electric knife (another of my fav kitchen gadgets!!!), toss them with either olive oil or melted butter and some Mrs. Dash, and dehydrate away!!!!

Anyone have some good recipes/tips or books of these?  My sister and her family have one but they under utilise it. What they do dry turns out super thin and tough. They could use some tips on getting better results. I think she’s paranoid about preserving properly so they dry things for longer than perhaps needed.

I googled Amazon and there were a couple of recipe books there. Also a few websites with recipes on dehydrated fruit.
                                                  this sounds cool.
How big is it? how much counter space used?

The one I have is about 1ft tall and 1ft wide. It has 5 trays that you can leave in or take out depending on what you’re drying and how much.
