I don’t have a ferret, so I couldn’t say for sure, but I would do it S L O W L Y. Especially since your one bun seems to get angry at the sight of the ferret. The anger may be more jealousy/territorial though. Go to a neutral place for both, like a bathroom that they aren’t normally in. It would help to have a second person on hand to help watch and break up fights if anything starts. I would guess that a lot of the bonding tips for two buns apply for your buns and ferrets, though you might not have as many territorial issues since they’re different species. Have some gloves on hand – like the decent work/gardening gloves, not rubber gloves, to protect your hands if you do have to break up a fight. Maybe a spray bottle of water to stop aggression. Oh and watch sharp claws and teeth to make sure no bunny/ferret gets hurt!

I don’t think they should ever be left alone together, even if they do get along when you’re in the room with them…

If anyone has experience with ferrets and bunnies, please correct me if I got anything wrong, since, like I said, I don’t have any experience with ferrets.

DO NOT INTRODUCE THE FERRET TO THE RABBITS! Ferrets are obligate carnivores, which translates into “predators”. A ferret can kill a rabbit.

I was going to say the same thing. Ferrets eat meat and could maybe kill a bunny, especially a baby one or a senior rabbit.

I just want you to know that I have four rabbits and three ferrets so I’m not just a paranoid anit-ferret bunny lover…lol My guys are all caged in the same room but I am seriously diligent about making sure they don’t mix company. I’ve seen a ferret play rough with a cat and “win”. A poor bunny wouldn’t stand a chance. Granted a bunny would be more likely to die from a heart attack brought on by fear of the ferret than actually being killed by one but still…it’s dangerous for the bunnies.

I was just hopping in to say

NO!!! Ferrets eat bunnies… I was reading on another forum that the girls bf’s ferret got to the rabbit and it did not end well. Unfortunately two species you just can’t put together

We’d love to see pics of your new baby ferret though!!

I would work on the two boys (bunnies) bonding rather than trying to introduce them to the ferret. You mentioned in another post that they dont get along. First and most important are they neutered? What does their cage set up look like? Have you tried any stress bonding with them?

The carnivore angle doesn’t work for anyone who has a dog and rabbit or cat and rabbit combo. I’d imagine it would depend upon the ferret. But just like introducing to a dog or cat, you have to know their temperment first and very cautious second.  I personally wouldn’t suggest it as they tend to be a bit more high strung than most animals and are rarely are mellow.

Keep in mind that ferrets are specifically trained to hunt and kill rabbits. The problem is even if the ferret is friendly the way that they love to “play” with rabbits could be very scary for them and cause them stress or even injury. Good luck with the new baby ferret! They are fun pets. Maybe consider getting the new one a friend? They are very social.

While I have both the cat & dog bunnie combo, I don’t think I would try a ferret in the mix.
Cats & dogs have lived with humans for soo many centuries, they have a certain amout of – how do I say – mommy’s holding that bunny indoors so I better not hurt it. I’m not sure if a ferret would think it was off limits, heck not even all cats & dogs do.

I have dogs and rabbits that get along great but there is no way I would leave them alone my dogs have been trained that biting chasing pawing at or otherwise scaring the bunnies is off limits period. But they still have a high prey drive so I know the second I left the whole group alone with the lose bunny that things could go very wrong very fast.

I also have 3 ferrets. And they have met my bunnies through bars and when Marshmallow escaped her cage during the ferrets playtime. The ferrets were more afraid of the rabbits and quickly made themselves known on my bare legs. I also know that they could kill my bunnies in a matter of seconds if given the chance. I got one of my ferrets because he was put with a Guinea Pig to play and killed the piggy. So my ferrets and rabbits are kept separate and blocked from one another at all times.
