  Pip has a tendency to strew her eating hay all over the floor of one side of her pen, then she makes a bed out of it, despite the fact that she has a mattress to sleep on and a shelf.
  
  Question: I do clean out the hay completely on a regular basis, but I find I’m going through a LOT of hay this way. Is it okay if, barring being peed and pooped on, that I expect her to EAT this hay?
  
  I sometimes find the odd bunny bb in it, but it usually takes a few days for this “bedding” to get filled with any excrement, or shed fur. Then I have to throw it all out. It’s usually a litter box full by then.
  
  She refuses to let me put a hay basket or manger in her pen. Her majesty prefers her food as easily accessible as possible. In fact, she only stretches out her lips to pull up strands of it, lazy thing. She loves her hay. If I don’t put enough in there with her, she will definitely start throwing things.
  
  Is it okay for her to sleep in her food, or should I move the hay somewhere else…and take my lumps until she gets used to it?

  If she doesn’t mess it up immediately, I really see no problem with it. Monkey ahtes her hay rack, only uses it if theres nothing else for her to nibble on. She much prefers a pile on the floor of her house or pen. Or stuffed in a toilet paper tube, have you tried that?

  Sorry, lost my head there for a bit. Yes, she eats tubes for breakfast too.

  You know Mimz – Coco does the very same thing – if its in a hay rack, she will wiggle her little butt into the hay rack in order to eat the hay. She likes being on top of her meal, apparently. Generally, I just pick up the hay and give it a shake out – so any stray poops will shake out. She rarely pees on the hay and I can smell/feel it if it is – So I reuse the hay unless it it obviously soiled. I mean cripes. My diva has recently decided that the hay must be presented in the corner OF the box if she expects me to use her litter. We can’t just be using Oxbow Timothy as Bedding, for petes sake.
  
  Maybe she likes feeling very Henry the 8th – laying on top of her feast?

  I see no problem in letting them eat it If it’s clean no problem
  
  When I vaccum, I use the attachment hose-so hay doesn’t go up it but it does stick on the nozzle (do you know what I mean?) this sucks up any bb’s or fur and the hay is pristine again-then I put it back in the rack. Trust me they are not offeneded

  lolz…Thanks everyone. She does seem to prefer, and always has now that I think of it, to lie in her food.
  Lol @ Baleful…I am not big on history, but if you say Henry made a bed out of his dining table, I believe it! xD We DO tend to think of Pip as royalty. (Not like we have a choice, she never lets us forget it!)
