Pip has a tendency to strew her eating hay all over the floor of one side of her pen, then she makes a bed out of it, despite the fact that she has a mattress to sleep on and a shelf.
Question: I do clean out the hay completely on a regular basis, but I find I’m going through a LOT of hay this way. Is it okay if, barring being peed and pooped on, that I expect her to EAT this hay?
I sometimes find the odd bunny bb in it, but it usually takes a few days for this “bedding” to get filled with any excrement, or shed fur. Then I have to throw it all out. It’s usually a litter box full by then.
She refuses to let me put a hay basket or manger in her pen. Her majesty prefers her food as easily accessible as possible. In fact, she only stretches out her lips to pull up strands of it, lazy thing.
She loves her hay. If I don’t put enough in there with her, she will definitely start throwing things.
Is it okay for her to sleep in her food, or should I move the hay somewhere else…and take my lumps until she gets used to it?
