I am sorry for you loss. It is not uncommon for at least one of newborns to die. Sometimes there is a runt that has a harder time getting to the mother’s milk, other times there is something just wrong with it, and it is pushed to the side instinctively by the mother.
This next question will be gross, so if anyone is sensitive about graphic icky stuff, you may want to skip this paragraph—————————.The one thing though that concerns me is the bugs – Do you know if the baby had just died as it wouldn’t be normal for insects to be in the baby mouth right after death - unless there is a serious problem with fly strike in the bunnies habitats. Flystrike may start at the anal area, but they cause havoc within the rest of the body as the larvae grow. Check the undersides/anal area of the rest of the bunnies carefully, check the litterboxes, and cage. You are looking for little worms/maggets that are attaching themselves to the anal area (as well as inside). They may also be in the litterbox too. If you do see worms on the other bunnies or in the litterbox - get them to a vet ASAP. Flystrike is an emergency. I don’t want to scare you anymore than you are, it’s just that since other bunnies are around, you do want to get this figured out asap.
