Well, I’m experimenting around with all kinds of hair products to see if I can FINALLY tame the poofy frizzy mess my mane becomes when it comes in contact with humidity. Through my research so far I’ve found that aerosol hair spray seems to be the best bet against humidty frizz, but I’ve always shied away from hair sprays because I know the fumes can be toxic for bunnies.

But I’m wondering this -if you do the hair spray in a complete separate room or maybe even outside, is the residue still toxic for bunnies once it’s in your hair? Are there still fumes that linger on your hair once it’s in?

Good question, I have never considered if hairspray would be bad.
I’m always carefull about house hold cleaners, paints. & other chemicals.
I’ve never even thought about all the things we put on us, or use to take off us – nail polish remover for example (I don’t use it).

I think that it is probably the same as perfume, you probably don’t want to go around your bunny immediately after you spray the hairspray in your hair. I would recommend spraying it in your hair just before you leave the house, so that there is a lot of time for some of the fumes to wear off before you see your bunny. I think that it if it the scent is really strong for your bunny, they will probably just run away from your hair!

Yeah, using it in a separate room would be a good idea. Those sprays and the smell can linger otherwise. Like perfume departments, I usually have to avoid them or else do a commado style crawl to make my way thru them. If you spray elsewhere right before you leave the house, any other volatile compounds should dissapate outdoors and not bother Lil Bit. You may have tried this already……after shampooing, try applying conditioner in just 3/4 of your hair (not portion nearest your scalp) and then not completely rinsing it out. The residue may help battle the humidity frizz.

I’ve actually worn the SAME body mist for six years straight for just that very reason -their sensativity to smell. Right before I got Binkles I decided “Okay, I never want to confuse my bunny with my scent. I want her to know it’s me! So I designate…Calgon Hawaiian Ginger as MY scent!! ”

Yeah I have heard some things similar actually. I got some different products tonight, including a leave-in conditioner by Garnier. So we’ll see if something else works before deciding on hair spray, because I think I’d like to stay away from it if at all possible.

One thing to note about some hair sprays, is if you are only trying to keep the frizz down, and it has nothing to do with holding in place, then you could try defrizzer creams and sheens. Though hairsprays can put a barrier on your hair against the humidity for a short period, they can actually dry out your hair and make it more frizzafied in the long run. (depends on the ingredients).

I agree with the others-probably no problem especially since your using it in a different room. (That’s too cute that you use the same body spray so you don’t confuse the bunnies!)

My hair is curly and luckily I live in a relatively dry environment. I’ve found the trick though! Do you use a flat iron? First-get a good one and flat iron after blow drying-that locks out moisture and closes the hair folicle. The product I use is John Frieda’s Frizz Ease serum-it’s in a bottle and non-spray, put in your hands, spread on your hands then ‘clap’ on your hair, brushing down
