ok so shelby get her furr cacked around her but and i was wandering if it would b a bad idea to shave it cause she is very fussy there and im afriad all that cacked pee n siuff will irritate her or something but idk if shaveing it wiill b bad anyone have any opinions ?
I think it would be a better idea to give her bum a wash. I have heard it is not good to shave a bun, unless absolutely necessary. A butt bath would be better.
well i do that but i have also herd not to bathe them to much so i just wandered wich would b better
How often do you do it?
well i try not to more than once a month but her butt needs done like once a week i tryed today to get it with a wash cloth but that didnt work to well she dosnt like baths so im afriad to put her n there n try to just do her butt cause i dont want to freek her out or her hurt herself tryn to get away
Could it be something that she is eating that is giving her the poopy butt?
I’d go in to see the vet-they should not be dirty around their bum. If this is happening and the bum is dirty that means a vet trip is in order! Also your vet can do a ‘hygeine shave’ which is what your talking about-shaving the fur around the genitals to keep the area cleaner.
I would definitely not shave myself because if you catch skin (their skin is VERY stretchy) or genitals you’re going to have blood and big vet bills.
Yes, don’t attempt a sanitary shave yourself – let an experienced vet do this. Their skin is very delicate.
I agree- the reason the bunnys bottom is dirty needs to be addressed just as much as the dirty bottom. By shaving the area- it will expose the skin and can lead to urine scald- so it is best to take the bunny in for a vet exam.
If she doesn’t like baths, I can guarantee she will not like a shave either, so definitely take her to the vet to see what they think ![]()
A vet visit is probably best.
I don’t know what kind of pellets you use & how much gets but both my Holland lops have to have the high fiber pellets or they get poopy butts.
You can also try a dry bath using corn starch to clean her up & sooth any irritation.
I heard somewhere that it is really dangerous to shave a bunny because of something to do with the natural oils in its fur protecting the skin from bacteria, and if you remove these oils or the fur, they can pick up diseases that can be fatal…. I dont know if its true, has anyone else heard this?
well she just got off anti botics a couple days ago so i think her poop is a little on the runny side from that so im gonna keep a watch for the next week n c if it gets better because she had clean bill of health all except for the eye thing thats not clearing up so im thinking it might b the anitbotics running there corse thanks for all the help tho and i will keep u all updated!
If you aren’t sure exactly if its from the anti-biotics, if the vet didn;’t say it could happen with it, take her in. runny poop can be very bad.
also have something to add she has recently started eatin timothy hay she used to eat just alfalfa so maybe could that b some of it?idk i have been giving her both now n she has LOTS always and she is the same happyiness she has been binkying and zooming and very snuggly so everything is the same except that
If there are no other signs of anythign wrong, no teeth grinding or anything, it could just be her diet change plus the antibiotics. keep an eye on it, and if it gets worse take her in
will deffinatly do she actually seems way better now that her eyes r better and everything seems normal but that so im def gonna keep a watch and maybe look for those pellets u guys talked about
Has this problem only been happening since the antibiotics? Do you notice any hind leg weakness that prevents her from lifting her tail up or anything?
I used to have to give Bailey butt baths often due to her disability. I would just use the kitchen “sprayer” nozzle on low and luke warm. I had a special soap for her that was given to me by the vet and it loosened the caked poop/urine. So you may talk to your vet about this well and let them know what is going on.
Ohhh antibiotics! I wonder if that’s why…Give your vet a phone call though for sure
Keep us posted!
