I took Pacey and Marshmallow and all the dogs with me yesterday to the lake for a little while.
I took along a kiddie pool for the dogs that won’t go into the lake
. Pacey was on his little harness just enjoying sniffing around and laying in the tall grass. But he became increasingly curious about the full to the top kiddie pool. I was walking over to pick him up (he has a long leash) when he just hopped into the pool. I thought he was going to freak on me so of course I freaked and grabbed him out of it. As soon as I set him down he took a high dive right back in. This time when I would go to reach in to get him he would thump and half hop and half paddle to the other side of the pool.
Have to say he is the first rabbit I have met that would willingly hop into a pool ![]()
you mean he swam?

A bunny willing to be in water, let alone swim?! ![]()
Wow. That’s cool.
Did you happen to get any pictures?
I’ve seen vids on youtube of swimming rabbits, and they all seem to swim well enough but I couldn’t tell if their owners had tossed them in the pool and the rabbits were swimming to stay alive or if they were actually enjoying it and had willingly gotten in. In most of the vids on there, the rabbits are in deep pools with no real way out, which concerns me.
But sounds to me like you have a bun that really enjoys swimming
who knew!
Kind of swam it was like a half hop then paddle paddle paddle then another half hop. I didn’t even think rabbits were able to swim lol
No I didn’t think anything eventful would happen LOLso of course the one time I don’t bring along my camera something like that does happen ![]()
That is a cool story! Must have been a sight to see
What a funny bunny!!
If it was warm outside, mayhaps he learned that it would cool him off. Some rabbits swim – swamp bunnies are excellent swimmers. You jsut have a water bun on your hands.
I wonder if Pacey’s hair made him float.
OMG! That would’ve been so cute to see! ^_^ I wish a few of my bunnies who tend toward poopy butt would like to take a swim, so I don’t have to fight with them to get their fannies clean! 0_o
haha! Pacey must be one of the rare few.
THAT is TOO CUTE!!! You’ll have to take pics/vids next time
We learned that buns could swim when I watched every single video on youtube that had rabbits in them
and then Dave put Kokanee in the tub-I don’t think she ever would have gone in on her own-but she really didn’t seem to mind it, she paddled around and then just floated around. And then chewed Dave’s shoes ![]()
KK, lol that’s funny. I’ve thought about putting Leroy in the tub with a bit of water, but I don’t want to scare him and break the bond I’ve formed with him, nor do I want him to get hurt (with my luck, something WOULD happen and we’d be rushing to the vet’s!) And since I found this ginormous spider crawling on my shower curtain this morning, I won’t be putting my bun in there any time soon!
As for the spider, of COURSE, I found it after I’d gotten into the shower, just as I was starting to relax! I nearly peed myself, it scared me so bad! I mean, this thing was HUGE. Legs included, about the size of a quarter. At least the fright woke me up! This wasn’t the first one I’ve found inside either, but it was the first peeping-tom spider! I don’t know where they’re coming from!!! Yikes. And to those of you who have spiders, tarantulas, and the like… I’m sorry for the rant, but I do NOT do well with any sort of spider or bug!
It was cute to see. He would get out do a few zoomies and splash back in I was too stunned to do anything else LOL. He has always been a little weird around water like sitting in his water bowl and trying to drag off cups of water when he is out. But I never thought he would get into a kiddie pool.
Sonn-you know that’s probably an excellent way to cool your bunny in the summer! No more frozen water bottles and fans for you-kiddie pool!!!
Haha this reminds me of when Fern jumped into a bucket of water that I was going to fill my fish tank up with. She did not like it though and when I grabbed her out of it she ran away flicking her feet back. It was hilarious though, she was just too curious.
one day i was at a friends house outside with shelby and the friend has a pool so i dipped her n to cool her off and she started paddleing she swam but i dont think she liked it i think it was just instink tho but it sure is cute
Hmm so rabbits can swim. Thats good to know. I always wondered. I could picture me diving into the river if Cotton ever fell in.
You bunny drags it’s water bowls out and about? Interesting bunny.
I had a black cat (before Myuu) who used to hang around my hubby all the time when he would be outdoors working on the cars. He had just done an oil change and the pan of the old stuff was sitting next to him, what does the cat do? Jumps right into it, stupid thing. He had to grab her and wash her down in the shower for a few hours to get it all off and even so she lost all her fur down her stomach and up to her armpits on all four legs. 0_o Took almost a year to grow back properly.
So what does she do the next time he does an oil change? He’d temporarily put the pan in the garbage can and she leaps all the way in there to get into it again! *groan* Another shower and hair loss. After the second time she didn’t try it again and he was more careful where he left the pan.
Honestly, I don’t know what she thought the stuff was, but she wanted it bad!
