Soooo we’ve had Mikey since May, and I think I’m really making some progress!!! I’m obviously not *really* bonding them b/c Mikey won’t live in their bedroom and I wouldn’t leave him unsupervised but I do want him to get on with them and vice versa.

Here’s how it started. We got Mikey home and he spent like three evenings constantly running to their door and crying. Corgi’s are bred for herding not hunting but he’s quite the predator-ish. He caught a duck at the park (Duck was not injured and we did get him to drop it) and he chases cats in the yard(however he has cornered two then run away crying) so I think it’s the chase not the catch, but hard to tell.

He was initially VERY fixated on them. Like nothing would snap him out of it-he’d stare and literally drool with his tail completely stiff. It was disheartening. I didn’t let him in, but always invited him to the gate to say hi to them. And when I was cleaning and they were crated I would let him in to explore.

Gradually (after learning some commands and getting better command of him) I allowed him to smell them while I held them. He was also allowed to smell when they were crated.

So he’s now doing fabulous! He comes in with me when I go into visit and kind of strolls around sniffing. He gets a bit anxious when they come up to smell him, but he doesn’t even try to mouth them or paw at them.

He’s excited but wagging his tail like he does when meeting dogs-rather then excited the way he is when there is a cat/bird etc in the yard.

He’s got a ways to go, but I think he’s doing lovely!

That sounds positive! I think with more practice and regularity he’ll catch on quickly. Yay Mikey!
