Most of the time for neuters they may not give pain meds as the males bounce back pretty quick from the procedure.

If it were me and I know your two are bonded I would not keep them away from each other – I believe they don’t hump or chase each other. I would make sure that Max doesn’t get aggressive because Penny smells different (from the vet) and I would keep Penny confined for about 3 or 4 days after the procedure.

I’ve never separated my bonded pairs after spays and neuters.

Neither of my boys got pain meds. I asked about them and they said that for the boys as long as the neuter is normal (and there isnt more trama than usual) then they give pain meds at the time of neuter and once while they are in recovery but do not usually send them home as they are not needed. So this might be how your vet feels as well. She said that since rabbits have sensitive tummies sometimes the extra pain meds just make the bunnies groggy and less likely to eat which causes more problems in the long run.

Did you bring both boys to the vet together?? I *thought* (might be mistaken) that Penny and Max were bonded already. If they are bonded then no you shouldnt keep them seperate. You might want to rub a towel all over Max to get his scent and then rub it on Penny (so he smells like Max and not like the weird vet place) before you introduce them again. If they were seperate today even though they are bonded make sure to keep a careful eye on them tonight that they are acting normal.

If they are not bonded yet then you should wait at least 1 week for Penny to heal up before starting the bonding process.

I couldn’t believe how rapidly Jackson bounced back from his neuter after watching Coco look like rabbit death warmed over for several days. He was eating and pooping and just loving life.

As to the bond, I think you got excellent advice

I would put them back together asap – no need to wait if they want to see each other.

I would keep them together. In fact when mine go in for anything,they’re bonded buddy goes in with them, and they are never apart.

The vet may not have known they were bonded, in which case you wouldn’t want them together right after surgery. AND their are differing opinions-some vets think that (or have seen examples of cats, rabbits etc.) coming in for one of them to get spay/neutered and breaking up afterwards. It’s just personal opinon but in the majority of cases, it generally works best to keep them together all the time.
