Hi there, so I just got home from a weeks vacation and when a I went I left baxter with My grandma. And she took good care of him and he was very happy and all but she said she only cleaned his litter box once when I was gone so I thought that was ok and it was because it wasn’t even full or even smelt
Bad really but when I went to dump it n our compost there was little fly larvae in it can this be a thret to Baxter at all? Or could have it been from a fly that just layed eggs in his poo ? I don’t realy know anything about this so your help would be great

        Thanks
        Jake

That’s kind of scary. They can get ‘flystrike’ and it’s generally outdoor bunnies who have a risk for that. Flys basically lay larvae in their skin (they can do this on sores, wet bums etc.) and it’s pretty dangerous.

To be honest, better safe then sorry, and I’d go to the vet for an exam just in case!

I just read that link-fatal damage by flystrike can occur in 72 hours. I’m not saying for sure your bun has it, but I’d just have an exam to be safe.

Oh goodness. Well, if this were me, I would check him thoroughly and then have the vet double check him to be safe. Fly strike can be a problem. Their larvae could work their way in their anal area and it could be life threatening – I’m not saying that it will be a problem with your rabbit, but you don’t want to take a chance.
