I was just wondering what it means when my bunny nudges me lol.  I’m new to the world of bunnies (i got a mini lop about two months ago, her name is Shotzee).  When I sit on the floor to play with her she runs around me and then nudges my legs with her head. Its soooo cute!  I’m guessing its a playful gesture, but I didn’t know if it had any specific meaning.

I love those bunny nudges!   Mine seem to do it for a few of reasons.

              1.  ”Hello”

              2.  A double poke means  -  ”I am thinking about getting passed you, move please.  (I may nip you if you don’t.)”

              3.  ”Make yourself useful and pet me or give me a treat or something”

I also call them bunny head-butts!

Most of the time my buns use them to say “Hey, What’s up?”

My bunny, Leroy, head-butts me sometimes just to say hi and other times, when he’s more persistent with the head-butting, to get my attention. I think it’s also just a bunny thing. I read somewhere (might be on the site below) that it’s rude in bunny-world to go zipping past another bunny without saying hi and stopping to acknowledge each other. I’ve noticed that even if Leroy is doing the Bunny 500 around my living room, when he comes near me, he’ll slow down, stop for a quick nose rub and then carry on about his business. I’ve started to make a point of stopping every so often to say hello to Leroy when I’m running around the house, cleaning or doing whatever, just so he doesn’t get offended (and because I love petting him!) Bunnies are so easily offended, lol.

This site is a really good resource, especially if you’re new to bunnies: http://language.rabbitspeak.com/

Aren’t they cute.    Ruby does lots of head butts.   To be petted     for me to move outta HER way      to say hello

I even got a little nip when I stopped petting her she wanted more.  I also get a grunt a nudge and a nip when she wants me to stop

Cotton does it now n then to say hello.

my penny does them too. Lola hasn’t yet. This morning I was changing his water and he nudged me a couple of times in the back and then nipped at my shirt/side. lol. He was in a great mood this morning. Doing tons and tons of binkies and right before he did the nudges he did the bunny 500 around the room and under the bed. Little did he know his good morning was about to come to a stop, poor baby had to go get fixed today.

My bunnies nudge when they want to be petted. They come over *nudge nudge* and if I dont pet them once more *nudge nudge* and if still no pets (I know I know what a slow and stupid human I am) then *thump thump* and bunny-butt. Now that I have caught on they know that if they want pets they just come over and nudge me for some. Its super cute!! I also get nudges if I am in the way…. but those are more like a push-nudge. Ahh the joys of reading bunny language!!

Otto has a couple different nudges. One nudge means “out of my way.” Sometimes that’s followed by digging and a little nip, though usually I move out of the way first 😉 He’ll usually nudge 2 or 3 times fast to show it’s urgent that I move.

Another nudge is very light and just means “hello.”

His other nudge is actually a shove. Sometimes he doesn’t like where I’m putting my hand (especially if I’m messing around in his maze haven while he’s in there). He doesn’t get mad often, but when he does he’ll use his nose to shove my hand hard. Lol “Get out of here, mom!” He’ll also do this with objects he’s mad at, espcially veggies that I’m trying to push him to eat against his will 😉
