As of today Cottons Dr.  hasn’t gotten the package for Cotton.

I received a nice email from Dana Krempels too.      She suggested that the organisms that settled in Cottons lip may be anti biotic resistant and to try a scrub

This entails  A product the hospital uses to scrub up sounds like.   She gave me a website to purchase it from.  Not very much $.  Sounds like I try to get it under his scabs and let it set for 3 minutes then wash off and put povidone iodine which I have.

I forwarded everything to Cottons Dr.   I mentioned it when I called to see if Cotton should go in today.  So she can have a look at it in the meantime.

In the meantime whatever was sent for Cotton if his Dr. feels like this is the way to go and not the scrub we will go with what his Dr. says.

If that doesn’t work then I will try the Technoscrub  stuff under his vets supervision.

All this wait n see wait n see  grrr.   I am so glad he has a good vet.

Does anyone know if Dana Krempels is a vet?   Or a biologist I wonder what a biologist does.   She did say that vets have had much success with this technocare stuff.

She’s not a vet. She has a phd. in biology and teaches at the University of Miami. The scrub sounds interesting…let us know what the vet says.

Honestly, a biologist has much more experience with bacteria and things like that, but they dont have the knowledge about what is OK for your bun. I would see what the vet thinks about her suggestion and go from there

Hi Katie, actually Dana Kremples is pretty darn knowledgeable but your right she’s not a vet. She has done rabbit rescue for many years and has written many articles on rabbits including the one on GI Stasis that so many rabbit owners refer too. I know she would always recommend though that you consult with your vet.

Is she the one that has that survey?

                    BT,
Your plan sounds perfect. Sending the info along from Dana K. is a good idea, so you and the vet have the same info. regarding options. Then following the vet’s directive seems the sensible way to go. What an ordeal this has been for you and Cotton. Let’s hope the vet’s new stuff or the scrub does the trick.

I am still waiting to hear from his Dr.  Apparantly the package didnt’ come yet.

Since it seems that your bunny may have a small host of antibiotic-resistatn microbes in the wound (is there tooth involvement?), I think it might be time to consider a “napalm strike”.  In cases like this, we use a surgical scrub called Technicare:

                      http://www.saveritemedical.com/technicare-antiseptic-surgical-scrub-and-surgical-prep-4oz-bottle-wo-dye-1ea-p-51530.html

IMPORTANT:  Don’t do this without discussing it with your vet for complete
instructions and to keep her in the loop!  Our vets have found this to be extremely effective, but you need to make sure your vet can help you through this and show you the proper procedures.

You’ll need to debride the wound as much as possible, and then apply the scrub full strength to the cleaned area.  Allow it to sit for about 3 minutes, but do not let the bunny lick it!  You can try to prevent this by putting a cottonball between the wound and his tongue, and holding him on his back (gently, with complete support; we do this on a countertop padded with towels).

After three minutes, rinse off the scrub *well* and tamp try.  You can finish off by dabbing the area with dilute povidone iodine.

If you do the Technicare soak twice a day for a few days, I would bed any money that this lesion will clear up.

                      I hope this helps.

                      Dana

thats funny  cotton with a cotton ball stuffed in his mouth lol.

I think come Tuesday I am going to order technocare.   As  a just in case future injury occurs.  Friday and still waiting to hear from his Dr. I am getting impatient.

Cotton is very active and chewing like crazy.   I hope when this lip thing is gone for good he doesn’t become destructive.

HE is now chewing on the computer chair. He chewed it down to the wood little brat.
