My boyfriend and I live with my bfs dad at the moment with our two lionhead buns which are 6 months old at the moment. We live in new jersey and during the day its at least 95 up to 100 degrees outside and his dad has ac but doesnt use it!!! so its atleast 82 to 85 degrees in the house! i am so scared for my rabbits that they are going to have a heat stroke or something horrible!! i refill their water with a cold bottle every few hours and i always have icepacks in their cage or where ever they are laying around at and i give them frest wet vegies, i dont know what else to do to make sure they stay safe from the heat until fall. i am so upset about this, they are my babies and i am really worried for their safety. does anyone have any helpful tips on how to make them comfortable or anything that can help me??? pleaseee

There are some cooling tips under Bunny Info. Personally I would set up a fan and have an wet open weave cloth in front of it that the air passes thru. Evaporative cooling can be very effective. Even just a fan would help. Also, can you set them up in a bathroom or laundry where there are tiles?

What is listed as “poor mans AC” can be extremely effective and very cost efficient.

Fans! my buns love fans and even if its just circulating the hot air it is a lot better then nothing. Maybe you could get a window ac for just your room or where ever the buns are. Maybe talkt o your boyfriend and give his dad a little bit of $$ in order for him to turn the air on for a few hours during the day.

thanks guys actually my bf did say F it we shouldnt have to worry about the heat and use the ac so we usually will turn the air on around 12 or 1pm when its the hottest but its been more humid lately which makes me worry even more. right now its 11:30 pm and its still 85 degrees in the house! right now the buns have cold water, two frozen water bottles and their own personal fan i just hope thats enough. i just want them to be comfortable and happy.

if you get a chance to run by a home improvement store, you can pick up a couple of tiles, they love to stretch out and lay on those to stay cool.

OH lionheads I bet they are lovely.   The window unit sounds like a good idea.  Gosh how do  y’all sleep at nite.

It is hot and humid here and 1 lady runs her fans and no a/c.  It gets in the 90s  I dont’ know how she does it.
