It really depends on the rabbit- I check my bunnies scent glands monthly when I trim their nails but I only need to use the q-tip/warm water to clean them about every 2-3 months.   By checking them monthly it will give you an idea of how often they need to be cleaned.  So even if you do not clean them- you should at least check them.

I had the same problem with Penelope! Like their nails, some bunnies need it more or less often than every month. If you’re having trouble with the bunny burrito, try learning how to trance. The FAQ section has a detailed walk-through, and with some practice and confidence, it makes it considerly easier.

The reason it is important to check (and you will discover over time how often you will need to do this when you do it for a few months) is because the waxy gunk that gets in there can build up over time and get hard, cause discomfort, blockage and/or infection. It is definitely not the most pleasant thing to do, but it is important.

              Good luck!

I agree, it’s more like every 2-3 months that there is anything to remove, but it’s really important to check. Keep practicing the burrito and your bunny will learn that you have more patience then he does, and put up with you
