You’ll probably have to get your partner to do the cleaning of litter if thigns go well and you do get pregnant, the ammonia may get to you. probably won’t want to have the bunnies play with the baby either, due to the fact babies like grabbing stuff, and bunnies aren’t too happy about being grabbed…

sorry, sally, i’m a youngin so i don’t really have any productive advice, but i would definitely like to hear about the progress of your pregnancy and buns

I agree with monkeybun that cleaning the litterbox will probably have to be your partner’s duty! Bunnies are so clean, I don’t think you need to worry about them being around your baby from time to time, maybe those people were thinking of non litter trained bunnies pooping around the house. I think that it is great that you bring your kids up with animals, my mom was always raising baby chickens when I was little, and it had a profound impact on the rest of my life. I find that I am a much more compassionate person than a lot of others I know (especially when it comes to helping animals), and I think it was how being around animals from a young age taught me a lot of respect for all living things.

Indeed, animals are great growing up. You learn compassion (hopefully) responsibility, and that they are people too, in their own way We had a couple bunnies when I was little, and I learned that although Mom thought Rambo was not a bunny name, it certainly suited ours, and that dandelions did indeed have a use, contrary to what my Grandma said. Bunny food!

Well, I dont have babies yet either, so I can’t offer any helpful advice, but I too want to be kept updated on how things are going with your pregnancy (hopefully soon!) and also the buns!

My sister and I are 3 years apart, and I think 3-4 yrs is a good age difference.

It sounds like you have things planned out well!

I was able to clean out Stephen, my first bun’s litterbox thru out my pregnancy. I used the normal hygiene I always did, I was very careful to wash my hands thoroughly after handling the litter. With cats, you cannot clean out the litterbox b/c there is something in it that makes the litter and/or feces dangerous to a pregnant woman (something with a “T”, I can never remember exactly…) So your husband will have to do the cat box, if he can do the bun’s boxes too, that would be helpful as well.

The only thing I had issues with later on was being SO BIG, as you know, you just can’t move around like normal…

I agree, I don’t think there is any health concern to have a baby around a rabbit.

Even if you are able to clean bunny litter boxes during your pregnancy (i.e. you can stand the smell and don’t feel queasy) it’d be nice to make the hubby do it for nine months right? Well, that’s what I’d do for sure :p LOL

How exciting!  I’m from a family of “Irish twins” but I think a 3-4 yr age difference is a great idea.  Taxoplasmosis is the cat thing.  Rabbits do not carry zoonosis w/in their fecal matter, so you shouldn’t have any similar issue like w/ the cats.  However, I’d tell the partner….”oooh can’t do any boxes for 9months.”  I think that would be the only way I could get off poop duty in my house

Oh shoot, I thought this was a baby bunny post too! I really hope the best for you on the 2nd child. I don’t have any helpful info either since I haven’t had children but I am sure everything will work out just perfectly. Please keep us updated! Also, I would love to see more pictures of your Bun!
