        Hey there,

Sorry I have been away for a while, been a very busy few months.

Just to remind you, Jimmy is the girl that we thought was a boy  and today she is off to the vet and I am bricking it .

We are taking her primarily to learn how to properly cut her nails, which I think is a good idea, but I am also worried about something else with her.

She has stopped eating as much, she used to go through pellets like crazy, and ate witlof (don’t know what that is in English), spinach, celery, broccoli etc like a crazed being as well. Not to mention the Hay.

But recently (the last week) she has hardly touched her pellets and veggies (a bit here and there) and is only eating her hay. I am very worried. Is this normal or a phase? I know I will find out later today, but I thought I would bother you guys furst.

        Thanks for your time.

        Matt (ang Jimmy May Slater-Kok)

I’ve had the rabbits turn down pellets before when 1) they were a bit stale by the end of the bag 2) new bag but pellets made with hay that had seasonal variation. Sometimes it’s made from stored hay, sometimes from really fresh hay.
Maybe Jimmy is just filling up on hay and not so hungry for the other foods? I wonder if they instictively eat more hay when shedding to gain more fibre? (That would be good!!) My other though is perhaps some of the veg gave her a bit of gas and now she’s wary of it…? If she’s eating hay and her water intake is ok then things should be ok – she might be just having a fussy moment. I notice when they’re going through a shed they can become contrary.
Hope you get some answers at the vet.

The spinach and broccoli can cause gas or upset tummies in some bunnies. Do you offer any leafy green lettuces?

Okay… looks like witlof… “means “white leaf”, for the reason of its appearance. It is a vegetable related to the endive.”

            (Source: http://www.jetfresh.com.au/witlof.html)

I really don’t know anything about this veggie. I think it’s a good idea you are going to talk to your vet about this. Has your vet encouraged a veggie diet in the past? I know that some vets don’t think it’s necessary and they only encourage pellets and hay.

Really? So the vet believes she’s going thru a false pregnancy? That can happen from time to time when they’re unspayed. Give her some space…
