As many of you know, I just got my first bun named Escarole.  He is a sweet little rescue guy.  We also happen to have 4 chinchillas.  Every evening from 5-9pm, the chinchillas take turns running a muck in our room to let out their energy.  Now that Escaroles pen is in our room, we decided to use large cardboard pieces to block off his section as not to upset him so early on with new buddies that he might not be ready for.  When it was our youngest chin, Chargers turns, we left the room on and off to use the bathroom and such as we usually do because he is so independant and well behaved.  Well, to my surprise when I came back in the room Charger had miraculously climbed the three foot high cardboard somehow and was in Escarole cage.  The two of them were slowly following each other round and round, sniffing away.  There was no thumping, growling or spraying.  It went very well for what could have been a horrible incident! We dont be doing that again.. but I thought it really showed how sweet the two of them are individually and together.

You new bun may have made a new friend.  Awe…

I don’t know much about chinchillas.  Do they eat meat or are they herbavores like rabbits?

They are herbivores. In fact, it is quite convenient because aside from food, they eat mostly the same snacks and hays. They dont eat veggies, but they do love different hays (they have a timothy diet) and they have treats like apple wood and rose hips.
