Hey tummy’s probably a bit upset after a full banana, if you get too worried, call a vet for sure. Check and see if she’s pooped before you go to bed.

A banana will have a large amount of sugar and some potassium as well, plus it’s a large quantity of food, so it’s going to bother her for a while. I don’t know if any elements of banana in large amounts is dangerous, but your vet can tell you that over the phone.

Her instincts are good with drinking water, so help her with that by continually providing plenty of fresh water until she’s better. She may get diarrhea, so keep her hydrated. Give her some hay to eat which will keep her digestive tract moving. If she does get diarrhea, it will be a one time thing not an illness so just be prepared to let her rest and drink and keep her litter clean and available since she’ll be uncomfortable. If you don’t need to take her out, let her rest in her cage until she starts to pass it. She’s not feeling well and won’t want to play for several hours at least. Though some movement may help her, well, movement.

How is she now? Pam gave great advice. I’m not sure what a vet would be able to do in this situation, but if she’s still acting strangely, please call them and at least consult over the phone if she needs to be brought in. Please don’t beat yourself up over this. It was a mistake and now you know better. We’ve all made mistakes at one time or another with our buns. They are delicate creatures and it doesn’t take much.

As far as your question if buns show PMS: No they don’t have regular cycles like human women do where they are more hormonal during a certain time of the month. In an unspayed female, hormones may run rampant off and on, but I don’t believe there’s any clear idea on why they may be more moody at certain times. Hormones can lead to territorial and destructive behavior, as well as aggression and extreme “cage-protectiveness”. Littertraining is usually more difficult when a bun is not altered.

Have you checked in with those new vets that were recommended if they are able to spay? I’m not sure how common the surgery is in Malaysia. It would be a good thing to have done if there is a vet who is experienced in the procedure. That would be much easier on you and her than having to operate in a few years if she gets cancer.

I was thinking simethicone for gas.  Not sure if gas is a problem in this situation tho.

Well you learned from the mistake and that’s the big thing. I don’t think you overreacted at all. I know I would be frantic if my bunny started looking sick, especially if I thought it was something I did! Sounds like things are getting back to normal, and that’s good. Though you should probably still keep an extra close eye on her eating and pooping for a little bit.

I think it’s great that you’re looking into having her spayed. Hopefully you can find a good one who’ll do it for you! I’ve heard 6 months is about the average age for when they star doing rabbit spays, at least in the US (I got Leroy from the shelter and before they adopt out any animal, the animal gets “fixed”, so I’ve never gone through the process myself). I’ve heard boys they can neuter a bit earlier. Out of curiosity, did your vet offer any particular reason why he/she only performs spays after the rabbits are over a year old? I know most dogs are done younger than a year in the US – do they not do any animals under a year old?

Oh and I saw the thread you’d started about shipping your bun, and I meant to ask how that went. Guess there were some holdups but you got her over ok? Yes, I completely understand how frustrating some people can be when they act as if your pets are just replaceable things.

I’m glad to hear your bunny is doing better, there’s something about bananas that just makes some of them go crazy over it. What’s your bunny’s name?

I’m glad to hear your bun is doing well! If you ever have any dietary questions, the link in the “Bunny Info” section regarding Diet is very good and provides lots of recommendations. I usually give my bunnies one treat per day that is about 1 tablespoon worth of the treat, for example 1 tablespoon or carrot or banana. I think its easy to get confused sometimes because things that we would consider healthy for us, like carrots, are much more sugary than I knew before I had a rabbit.

I know how hard it is to not spoil and overindulge our bunny babies on things that we know that they love! Hunny Bunny loves bananas too and I am very careful to not give them to her all the time. I do have a bunny cookie receipe that has a half a mashed banana in it as well as grated carrots, crushed pellets and honey. I don’t make them too often because she goes nuts over them. Every day at 4pm she hops up to me because she knows I am going to give her a few honey nut cherrios that she will sit and beg for. My bunny grunts at me too but I thought it was snoring. When I hold her in my arms like a baby, she falls asleep from my stroking her head and she grunts like she is snoring. I got her used to being held that way when I got her at six weeks old. She don’t mind my babying her as I do treat her like she is my baby.
