        I’m at a loss here.

Quincy seems perfectly happy, but he hasn’t emptied his hay rack all weekend.  Usually he’ll eat all of it at least once a day.  For a while it seemed like he was digging around for his pellets (I’ll either give him a handful at a time or just throw them on top the hay so he can have fun scavenging), as though that was the only thing he wanted.  But then it seemed like he just didn’t feel like eating anything.

I know that sounds like a classic emergency case, but what’s making this confusing is that he’s excreting fairly normally and if I hand-feed him he’ll usually eat it.  He seems to be drinking water, if not as quite much as usual.  He also munched up some greens earlier.  He’s perky as ever.  Since he’s a binky machine I’m going to notice if the energy is off.

Tonight, off and on (even while I’m typing this), he’s been picking at the hay.  I’m hoping I’ll see that rack emptied soon.  For the past few days I’ve been confused about whether to call the vet, worried that he’s in trouble but thinking I didn’t have much reason to think he’s sick since he’s happy.

        What do I do?

Edit:  Since I wrote this he seems to be munching normally again.  Still, I don’t know if this is a symptom of a bigger problem. 🙁

Whew! Well, I am happy to hear that he seems to back to normal. One thing to note is it IS okay to call your vet and let them know your bunny has slowed down as far as eating goes. A vet will understand that something is going on and will listen to his stomach and check hydration, and may sometimes prescribe a gut motility drug to help get things moving again even if they don’t discover an underlying cause. So don’t worry about calling your vet even if your aren’t sure what is going on. With rabbits, observation, like you were doing, is key.

          Is he pooping normally?

Sometimes rabbits go through this, and it’s hard to pinpoint why.

          Keep us udpated.

Yay! I woke up to the sound of busy crunching this morning. Never thought I’d be so happy to hear that.

He’d emptied most of the tray so I stuffed it full before I left. I guess he’s over whatever got into him. Thanks for the advice. I guess next time I should err on the side of caution even though he was perky, just in case.

And yes, the poops were normal looking, though maybe a little fewer in number.

Hey Battie glad your bun is eating normal again. I know with one of my buns she seems to go through a few days at a time where she doesn’t eat that much at all –then like 4 days later she eats like a little pig. Her poop is always okay during this time too.
