I was petting Tucker this afternoon when I had them out in the big run and she was letting me pet her for a really long time, she was almost falling asleep at one point..then all of a sudden I could feel a vibration and I could see her jaw moving a little…I am almost certain that she was tooth purring! It was awesome…she’s NEVER done that with me before!

I was really starting to believe that Tucker didn’t do them either..I have had her for almost a year and a half now..and nothing, nada, zip..and then all of a sudden she started doing it and she did it for quite a while too!

Ah so there is hope! hehe. I love all the things bunnies do, and after I found out about tooth purrs, I’ve been on the lookout for one – haven’t been graced with one from “anybun” yet. I’m still amazed by the fact that I can sit and watch Leroy go about his business for hours. It’s better than tv!

I was petting her for a good 5 minutes or so non stop before she did it, so I dunno, maybe this was the first time that I’ve been able to really do that with no distractions..a little bit after she started I called to Drue and told him to come over and get some lovins too and just me talking was enough to get her out of her zone a little, so I think she needs completely silence to be calm enough for it or something..who knows..LOL bunnies are fascinating and there is so much to learn about them!

Yay!! I’m so happy for you I’m lucky because Juli will tooth purr as soon as I pet her head for the first time. The bad part is that when I just try to give her a quick pet before I leave for work, she immediately bunny pancakes and starts tooth purring, it is VERY hard to stop petting then.

Dana, a tooth “purr” is when a rabbit gently chatters it’s teeth together – usually a sign of contentment. Often it’s when you’re petting them just right. Sometimes though, they’ll be dozing across the room from you and you can hear a click-click-click.  Rabbits can also grind their teeth and this is very different. This would indicate they are in pain and often they’ll be other signs of this.  Not to be confused with tooth purring which is allll good.

there are times when Cotton would tooth purr from where ever he is when I talk to him.

HE does purrs when I first start petting.  After he relaxes and I do nice slow soft pets he starts to doze off.  It takes a few minutes after I stop for him to notice and perk his head up for more.

Ruby she has only tooth purred 4 or 5 times since I have had her.  She mostly speaks ear.  When I pet her whatever side I am petting that ear goes waaaaay forward while the other remains flat back.   Guess thats her mode of tooth purr.  Silly girl.

Monkey has done a couple tooth purrs for me, but as soon as the hubby comes anywhere near to hear it, she stops and runs away. Silly girl.

Cotton is like that too . HE can be loudly purring away then when I get him close to my neighbor so she can hear he stops.  Every time.

My goodness, I guess my bunnies are tooth purring machines! Chubs does it almost any time he allows you to pet him for longer than 30 seconds and Comet too, when he is relaxed enough to get some loving. Chubs loves his ears and base of his ears rubbed and Comet likes his little cheeks. I pet them there and it’s purr city!
