Chloe is really sweet (never bites when I reach inside her cage, eats off my hands without biting, binkies around the house, etc. ) and she loves it when I pet her. She actually hops over, stands on her hind-legs and looks for me so that she can get pet! I’ll go on the floor and spend close to 20-30 minutes with her. However, when I’m lying on the floor petting her, she would nip at me. I’ve read that it’s normal for them to nip when they want something, but she actually bites so hard it hurts (or leaves bite marks!) When she does this I would thump and turn my back on her to let her know that it’s not okay. I don’t understand why she does this, but it’s definitely aggressive! I’m so scared of her now because she bites and I’m already skittish of animals. What can I do to teach her that it’s not okay to bite me this way. She actually made me bleed a few times so I’m so scared of her now. Please help!

clap your hands loudly and say NO in a loud clear voice, my bun is slowly learnign when I do that, she’s in trouble for whatever she was doing. Another thing to do is when she does that, put your hand on her head nad push it gently to the floor and say NO to her. It shows you are the dominant one to her.

Also, the second she bites or attempts to, let out a high pitched shriek. Like EEEE! in a soprano voice. Bunnies give a shrill scream when they are hurt, and it will sound like you’re a hurt bunny to Chloe, which may cause her to know she is really hurting you.

Has she always done this? I read in your other post that she is 3 and spayed already. I wonder if she is still have the toileting problem whether she is not herself. Also, some buns get growly etc when they’re shedding. It’s a real learning process with these rabbits! With one of mine I can pet for ages but if I touch a sensitive area, she’ll growl and pounce. My other i have to approach carefully to pet. I usually pet him with my slipper then transfer to my hand as he’s afraid of hands at first. Also, they can react funny if your hand comes toward them from the front where they don’t always see it.
