Our new bunny arrived last night. We managed to save him from a man who was going to put him down so that he didnt have to find boarding for him while he went on holidays.

We are so happy to have him join our little family of Rabbits. Stu and Flopsy are smitten with him, even though he is 3 times their size… He must look like a giant to them. We dont know what kind of rabbit he is, but he is pretty big, and he thumps the bottom of the hutch a lot. Hes still very nervous because of how he was treated at his last home, but is already taking treats from us, and we just love him to bits.

His last owners named him Twitch because he is so nervous. But we are going to call him Mr Bunny.

Just wanted to share a photo with you all.

Isnt he beautiful. I hope he is happier now

Thats such a dumb reason to put a rabbit down.    Glad he is now part of  your family.   Mr Bunny certainly sounds better than twitch.

Yes he will come around very quickly sounds like.   He must already like ya’ll

Some long overdue TLC needed for that bun. Happy he’s with you guy’s now. Sorry to sound pessimistic…have you checked he is a he? I’m not poking fun at you about your experience with Stu, I just think it’d be worth checking. I hate to hear you’ve had a pregnant doe dumped on you. Mr Bunny has some fur loss going on on the forehead. Do you think it is just shedding? Might also be prudent to check for fleas/mites on that spot.
Kudos to your partner for speaking his mind to the former owners also!

Anyone who who put an animal down so they don’t have to board them over the holidays – does NOT deserve to have pets!

thanks everyone! He has been running around on our lawn for the last few hours. He has really come out of his shell this morning! He will creep over to me for treats, and then races off across the grass doing funny little jumps, and flicks with his feet with his treat in his mouth. He is so sweet.
Yes, we checked last night that he is definately a boy! He has been kept seperate from our girls, and is booked in to be neutered on Monday. Lol thought Id better make sure he was a boy first or the vet would think we were playing jokes on him!
I have checked him all over for mites and fleas, ticks etc, he doesnt have any that I can see, but I gave him a brush with some Diatomaceous earth just incase. He doesnt seem to be malting, no hair comes off him at all.
When I give him pellets he thumps his foot at me… Does this mean he is excited or angry?
Also, I heard that the last people used to feed him a lot of weetbix. They said he loves it. His diet before was weetbix and supermarket lettuce leftovers, and old fruit. they said they used to feed him just anything that was around. but mainly weetbix. ..
My rabbits all eat hay, pellets, and a few veggies and fruits, but I try to keep them healthy.
                                Is weetbix bad for rabbits?
He doesnt seem to like hay , he hasnt touched it. What should I give him to bring his health up to speed. Even though he seems fine… is there something I can do now to keep him healthy from now on? Thanks everyone!!!

Here is Mr Bunny (Twitch) playing on the lawn this morning.

                                      Mr. Bunny is beautiful!
I’m glad you’re getting him fixed asap. The vet will also be able to tell you about his overall health.

Sounds like the former owner, including the diet, was not at all good for him. He’s lucky he has you now.

I would get him on the diet you usually give the girls. It may be a difficult change for him, but I doubt stopping the weatabix or anything else will harm him as much as continuing with a poor diet. He may need time to get used to hay, if he has a sweet tooth. Give him pieces of fruits he likes as treats until he gets used to the new diet.

Aha! You should call him Nollsy He has a little beard like Shannon Noll. That’s a great pic and he doesn’t look so big either. The lops tend to appear chubby but mostly they’re just compact and fluffy. Weetbix? Oi, oi oi ! Why he’s under for the neuter they could give his teeth a good check since he hasn’t had much hay in the past.

Try different kinds of hay you can, see if any of them get his interest. He really does need hay in his diet, not Weetbix.

And yes, you 3 are just too cute for words

Who could ever think of putting down an animal for a reason like that? It boggles the mind.

Hope his recovery is swift, poor fella. He’s probably a dwarf lop – they’re called mini lops in the States. He’s either a bit overweight or a cross with another larger breed.

He looks like a mini lop to me too.

Has he been any better with hay lately?  Thumper hated hay the first few days we had him because he wasn’t used to it.  We started with some orchard hay…he seems to like that maybe because it’s softer then Timothy?  Kaytee also sells some that hay dried herbs mixed in and Oxbow has a mix that has a bunch of herbs and dried flowers mixed in..maybe he’d like one of those since the taste and smell might encourage him to munch?  Thumper wanted nothing to do with the mint bag I bought..but Tucker thinks it’s the best thing in the world (after fresh mint of course)

Thanks guys awww he has now recovered fully from his little operation. He still hasnt eaten any hay since we got him, so yesterday I chopped his hay up into chaff, mixed it up with some of his pellets, and have it to him like that…. and now he wont stop eating it! Seems he only likes it if its all mixed together (which is funny cause he wasnt too keen on pellets to begin with either!)
But now he gets so excited for the food!!!
He has stopped thumping every time we walk past, and loves hopping up on to our lap when we are watching a movie. Stu gets a bit territorial, but everyone is getting along great. They are still seperated unless they are under constant supervision cause we dont want any unplanned pregnancies! But all is well. More photos soon
