So, I’m new here, and I was wondering if you could help me bond my buns. I haven’t been able to get much info anywhere else.

I have a spayed (about 2 months ago) girl, Rouge. I also have a neutered (about 4 weeks ago) boy, Bandit.

I would imagine his hormones are still causing issues. Is this normal after this long? I usually let them out together in the bathroom for short spans, but he still won’t stop humping her and chasing her. I know it is more a sexual thing and not a dominance thing. She never acts aggressively, but she doesn’t want to put up with it. They just spend time going in circles until Bandit gets too tired and lays down. When he stops chasing her she usually just ignores him and sniffs the closest object or grooms. As soon as she moves though he’s back on her tail.

I do think there has been some reduction in his hormonal behavior. He doesn’t hump my hand or spray me with pee anymore when I feed him.  I’d say that’s an improvement. His litterbox skills aren’t any better either though.

Should I be waiting a few weeks more for this? Are there any signs they may bond someday? I’ve been really busy lately and it’s been a great way for them to get in exercise in a short time.  By themselves I usually just them them run in another room for a few hours. Rogue is good with her litterbox and and on occation I  let her out around the living room for nearly the whole day on my days off.

The fact that there is just humping and not outright agression is a good sign. Usually 4 weeks is enough time for the hormones to go away. Just because she’s not acting aggressive doesn’t mean that Bandit isn’t trying to establish domiance. This is a common behavior for sorting out the pecking order and as long as she’s not turning on him and biting, I’d just let things go their way. You can try to dissuade him with the humping with stern “NO!”s and even push him off of her if he won’t leave her alone.

I also agree that this sounds promising because there is not aggression. How long have you been bonding so far?

Mmm…probably about the last week or so. Not much progress. I moved them to another room and still the same thing. Just obsessive humping. I’ve tried correcting him, saying no, moving him away when he does it. He doesn’t even notice the water bottle he’s so busy. She gets annoyed after a while because when he approaches her she bows her head for grooming but he tries to hump it instead. Then she just starts to run away.

I know Bandit could be good with grooming her, he’s great with exchanging head rubs for kisses from him with me. As far as Rouge is concerned, all she wants from me is head rubs. Never any kisses in exchange. But he’s just too distracted by humping her to do anything else.

I’m concidering a car ride in a box for them.

From what Binky Bunny has experienced with bonding Jack to a new female, the humping can be a bit seasonal too. So spring can still affect neutered buns. I have noticed my buck still approaches to hump my doe and it was more so when the weather turned finer. Maybe this is a factor with your buck? Residual hormones, newness of the doe and seasonal effects? Then there’s the dominance play off of course.
