Molly has come home from the vet today. She was spayed yesterday and it went fine.

She is eating and all seems well – but her stomach is making some really loud noises. It sounds like in the movies when someone is having a really bad stomach and needs to run to the toilet right now or they will have an accident right on the floor. I keep worrying to find big brown pool underneath her, but so far nothing.

I feel sorry for her ’cause it cannot feel good when it is making these noises.

Is it normal after a spay?

It is possible due to the medication and anesthesia. Did you get some pain medication?

It’s a good sign she is eating.

I got some pain medication – baytril mixture.

Good to hear. I was getting a bit worried, but since she seems really fine and has lots of appetite, it seemed strange

Well baytril is an antibiotic it is not a pain medication.

Hmm, they told me it was pain medication…I did wonder as I came home and saw the name, as Karl got something completely different. Something that was really tasty.

Oh, poor little thing if she is without pain medication. She seems fine though – apart from the noisy stomach. Should I call the vet and ask for something different??

If you feel like she is in pain then I would. It’s hard to really know how they feel since rabbits are known to hide pain. I think I would just to be safe.

I bet Karl got Metacam which is a sweet liquid-type pain medication – it is an anti-inflammatory pain medication.

They are supposed to be specialised in bunnies and I paid $500 for the spay, so I would expect that they would take proper care of her… Oh, poor little thing. I wish I had paid attention when I picked her up. The vet said it was pain medication on the phone when she rang, but I didn’t check when I was there. Maybe the nurse gave me something wrong..

But anyways, thank you! I will get her Metacam instead.

My bunny got neutered yesterday. They didn’t give him any pain meds. He seems to be fine. He is eating and pooping. He’s not running around but I suppose that is good for now. (It’s only been 24 hrs)

They also didn’t stitch it up, they used glue. I imagine that a neuter is a lot easier on bunnies than a spay?

If the gurgling is a bit of gas, you might gently massage her tummy but not too close to her incision. It may stop by tomorrow after she has some good poops. Has she been able to poop yet?
