So, I know most people would just be happy with it, but my bunny is *very* well behaved.  She is pretty much perfectly litter trained, she never ever pees outside of the litterbox and only has a couple raisins outside of her box and even that is just inside her room.  She never digs, never never chews, she never bites, or anything.  She doesn’t even jump on furniture!  Is this just because she is so young?  She is 9 weeks old.

That is possible. Her behavior can very well change once she hits rabbit puberty and adolescence around 5 or 6 months.

Thanks! I am okay with it if she is going to start being “naughty”, but it would be so nice she if didn’t! I prepared myself for anything before I got her though.

Otto was perfect when we brought him home, and at 5.5 months he’s still really good. He never poos or pees outside of his cage, and even in the cage he only leaves maybe 3-4 poos a day outside the litter box (I think these are accidentally kicked out of the litter box, not left on purpose). He doesn’t chew on furniture and hasn’t dug at the carpet; he only digs and chews on cardboard (like his Maze Haven) and any magazines I leave around (but I let him do that, so I don’t consider it naughty). I can tell he’s getting braver with things, but bunny adolescence hasn’t been bad at all so far. Hopefully your bunny is the same way!

How sweet! I’m glad he’s being good for you! He might not change, but he may when puberty hits. You increase your odds of him remaining well-behaved if you neuter sooner rather than later (at about 3-4 months). If you wait longer, those bad behaviors may sneak in and become habits. I’ve found that in most cases bunnies are very well-behaved when they are young. But as they get a little older, they get braver, and they’re more willing to explore and experiment (with their teeth). Keep in mind that even after neutering, the “adolescent” stage does technically last until about a year or so. So a well-behaved, neutered bunny at 5 months may be very different from how he will act at 9 months.

I guess it will just be a surprise then! I think I will stick with my plan to not let her free roam when I am not home until she is over 1 yr old then. (she has her own little room for now) I assume early neutering doesn’t hold true for females since they need to be spayed later on?

I apologize, for some reason I thought your bunny was a male??? In that case, then yes… about 6 months is the soonest most vets will spay, altho some will as early as 5 months depending on the bunny’s size. Males can get “humpy” and start spraying earlier (at about 4 months), but many times females don’t show those puberty behaviors until about 5-8 months, right when they’re old enough to be spayed.

My mini rex (female) was wonderful from when we got her (approx age: 4 months) until about 6 months. All of a sudden, she turned *evil*… lol. She was spayed at 7 months and immediately afterwards, she was perfect again. Of course, HER idea of “perfect” is: “I will do what I want to do, when I want to do it, and YOU better get out of my way.” In my eyes tho, she is a perfect angel. ;o)

Thanks for the replies, I think I have an idea of what to be prepared for then

I prepared myself fully for an evil bunny so thoroughly that I was actually surprised when she was so sweet! Our older bunny is also very well behaved, but she is almost 4yrs old and has been spayed for years (I adopted her older).
