Hi all, as most of you know I posted about my rabbit pooing in the lounge, i put down some old blankets in that corner to protect my carpet, she is still doing it but not as bad. Thing is today, from a distant her poop seemed to look like “logs” i know that sounds awfull. but when i cleaned them up basically its the little balls in a clump, there was 3 clumps. What does this mean/ Am i missing something out of her diet ? im a bit concerned any advice would be appreciated!

What you’re describing sounds like cecals (BB members, is that the right name?) which bunnies poop and then eat later. Gross, but it’s part of their digesting process.

Cecals are darker and gooier than regular poops. Does that sound about right?

If they are strung together by what looks like strands of line, ie. poo covered fur, but are just long and mushy it’s cecals. If she is also having regular, round dryer poo, then she’s fine. Eating cecals is one of the delightful parts of bunny life (yuck). I sometimes would have my bunny drop some, and before I needed to clean it up, he’d just eat them and you’d never know it happened.

I think cecals are an ingenious way that nature gave rabbits to survive in harsh winters when food was scarce. Their bodies make every bit of nutrition count, and by eating a cecal which is enriched with their own nutrients, they can survive on them with longer periods between finding foraged food.
