The two baby bunnies at my barn…the lady who owns them actually really wants me to take them, she knows they would get much better care and attention with me. My bf said we can maybe take them home after he gets a more stable job as we can’t afford any more pets right now (this summer my horse’s health is totally draining me…) I will take their pen home and they can be outdoor buns for the summer but will come in during the cold weather.

I hate having to worry about them as I can’t have total control over their care. For example I worry that some of the kids that come for lessons might give them treats that will make them sick and when it rains I have to drive over to put them in their indoor cage as they have a nice big outdoor pen but it leaks and they get all wet and I know no one cares enough to do it but me (because it’s just sooooooooo much work…sarcastically).

I really hope we can get them soon because the younger they are the more they will adjust to being handled frequently, etc. Plus babies are just soooo cute. I worry about Pasteurella so if they come here I will have to test them before bringing them in near my buns.

They are about 4-5 months old and have taken to humping each other frequently. Is this normal for boys this age?

ps. pics of these uber cuties to come soon. No one at the barn bothered to name them so I called them Opal (white guy) and Onyx (black guy)

that’s when their hormones go crazy. expect more humping and watch out for fights. all buns, does and bucks, hump for dominance.

If the owner is happy to give them over to you, have you considered taking them to a rescue or just keeping them as fosters? Even rehome them yourself where you can pick who they go too? Or are they already yours !?

I know you were so concerned over Henry.  I take it he never showed up again.  So sad.  Also I would be worried the kids might accidentally leave the door open and they get loose.

Thats what happened to hubby’s 2 when he had them in another city.  A fox got one and the other is still seen around here n there but no one can catch it.

I am happy that they can go home with you.  Your sick horse yes that does get expensive.  I know you have  a big heart for animals and are doing your best.

Best wishes on taking them home soon.  OH and yes I hear you on getting them checked out at the vets.  More $ but worth it.

I agree with Jersey, maybe your best bet would be to rehome them or see if a shelter can take them. It’s really hard right now, you would be nearly doubling your rabbits by taking those two. It would be great if you could find them someplace where they could be indoors and get enough attention. Also, keep in mind that they may not be able to live together much longer, so then they’ll need to be rebonded after the neuters.

I’m sorry, I don’t know much about bonded rabbits. Why would they not be able to live together much longer?

The hormones>>>fighting. Especially with two males. You might have to separate them. If they are fixed, they may go back together no worries but often you have to re-bond them of get a “true bond” between them. Personally I think littermate bond is different to bonded altered rabbits – but not entirely sure on that!!

I’m really upset. I might have to move my horse soon because she is having some health problems and is not getting the proper care at my current stable and I’m not sure if I will be able to get these bunnies because I know the owner is going to be really upset I’m leaving, I’ve been there for 7 years. I really worry about the care they will get (or won’t get) if I’m not there everyday. She is sort of hinting to me now that her son wants to keep them (spoiled brat much?).

Anyways, this weekend I’m getting my bf to build them a little wooden shelter box so they will have a nice cozy, dry place to escape the rain and when they are scared.

If I move my horse it will be soon but I’m gonna see what I can do about the rabbits.
