I took the radiation this morning and still feel pretty good so far. Being isolated is kind of weird, but most of the radiation should leave my system within a few hours. As it is with all the water my mom has been making me drink I probably only have half as much as before. The scan came back very clean with only a little thyroid tissue left around where the thyroid was. None of that is even producing any hormone, so they couldn’t detect it with bloodwork. That is both a good thing and a bad thing, as it means they will only be able to check for new growth with a full body scan. Though it means that it also probably isn’t going to bother to grow. They needed one of my levels to be at at least 40 to give me the dose, and it was at 140! I am apparently extremely hypo right now! Which explains why i’ve been sleeping since we got home.

          Glad it’s looking good =)

I had radioactive dye once because I had a peritonsilar abscess. It was SO weird, going through an IV that had just had very cold saline and suddenly having that vein feel warm, then my wholeeee body hot.

Ew, I’m so glad mine was a pill. I don’t think I could take any more needles. I still have a bruise from where I had my blood drawn a week ago! I was super relieved too that my labs from earlier this week were good and dandy so I didn’t have to have them again this morning.

Glad things are working out for you.   May you continue to be on the road to recovery with no setbacks.  No more thyroid problems yipee  just a pill everyday.  I bet that beats the problem of the thyroid malfunctioning though.

So you are radioactive.  Is your hair glowing      just kidding.

I can remember that I was more concerned with my radiation therapy than I was with my chemo. Mine wasn’t the kind that I had to isolate myself though, which was a relief.
I have an elderly cousin who has gone through treatment for thyroid that involved the same radiation procedure. He came through very well. I am sure yours will go well also. Keeping you in my prayers!

My hubby opted out of the radiation he just did the chemo.  In his situation he would have lost his saliva glands and his beard.   His throat would have been burned and he would have gotten some strong numbing stuff for his throat.  Plus becoming very weak.

I hope yours has a much better outcome and you don’t have to go thru what hubby would have.

                  Hang in there

When my girlfriend got her treatments, she had me bring a geiger counter from work to make sure she wasn’t producing any major rads that could harm her rabbit.

Thank you for all of the support! My second day went well enough, I only have minor nausea, and things will finally start to go back to normal tomorrow. I start back on my hormone and I get to start eating normal foods! I am getting a Subway sandwich for lunch tomorrow! I’m currently drooling at the thought of bread, mayo, and processed meat (which is a rare treat anyways). Plus I load my sandwiches with veggies, which I think is half of what I’m craving too. Of course I still can not physically touch people, though starting tomorrow I will be able to be within 2 feet of them. Even though the precaution is supposed to last 5 days at 2ft, I am cutting it to 3 in order to actually hold my boyfriend’s hand on our one year anniversary (this Saturday). I will still refrain from any intimate contact beyond that until Monday. Since over 98% of the radiation has left my body at this point, and I had hardly any remaining thyroid tissue, the amount of radiation I will be emitting will probably be quite low by Saturday anyways.

I know that I am now a ‘cancer survivor’, but I don’t feel that way at all. I don’t feel old enough to have had cancer, and I still don’t believe it could happen to me, even though it did!

That’s so sad my thoughts and prayers go out to you. I am glad you are better and you beat it! My best friend in High School had a tumor on her brain stem and complications with that led to her passing away! It always good to hear a success story!!

The words “cancer survivor” were terms I did not come to grips with until a few years after my diagnosis. As my treatments, such as they were, were not as bad as some folks I have seen, it was almost like just fighting a really bad virus or flu. Of course, there’s all the surgeries to add to it and my changed appearance, but it’s like I just want to forget it all ever happened as my life has gone back to pretty much normal now.
There will come a day you’ll look back and think, “Huh. Cancer? No big deal.”

Any sign of super powers yet?

That is so sad tabalab. I really am so lucky that this whole thing was so minor. So far no super powers. Unless you count super hearing, though I think that is a side effect of being back on my medication and being more awake. I got my follow up scan yesterday and it came back clean! Then I went and got my last HPV shot. It wasn’t that bad at first, but I think it gave me a migraine today. Ah well, at least it’s summer and I can sleep it off. I suppose I’ll clean my room tomorrow!

Yes – I think you probably can take a day off from cleaning your room I’m glad to hear that things went well – I’ll be keeping you in my thoughts for all good news from now on!
