I have this new lap top I can get for 100 a month for 6  months.   I want it.  6 months is a long time to me for making payments tho.

I know I can do it.   I will know more after tuesday and Cottons appmnt.

Are laptops nicer than desktops?  I know laptops you aren’t tied to a desk.

I personally think laptops are waaaaaaaaay better than desktops, not just for convenience. I find them to be faster, easier to handle, and of course you can take them with you on trips.

I’m using my new laptop right now, but I am really a desktop addict. It’s just a matter of moving out of my comfort zone.

But I’m wondering what laptop you’re considering if it’s 100/month for 6 months? I got this one, and Acer Aspire 5515, which I have been told was an excellent choice, for just under $400 with 3 GB’s, a case and an optical mouse thrown in as a special sale at Best Buy. Laptops and PC’s are getting lower and lower in price, with much more power in any of the newer ones, so I would shop around. Try Newegg.com, Overstock.com, Walmart and Targets for good buys too. I always end up with just what i want at a good price at Best Buy, though.

Laptops are TONS better, especially if you like to use the computer a lot… you can take it in the living room, use it in bed… at the kitchen table… outside (in the shade)….

And $600 isn’t bad for a laptop, but you CAN get a good one for cheaper than that.
                For instance:
                http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16834114613&Tpk=34-114-613
                http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16834146580

If it’s a matter of having the time to pay it, it still could be cheaper to do a different payment plan and get a different computer…

You can also get a NetBook (or also here.. for a bigger brand selection), which has less functionality than a regular notebook, but can also be got for under $300 and in pretty colors…. good if you just want it for word processing and internet, though it’s smaller so the screen and keyboard are also smaller.

I think it would be hard for me to phaze out our desktop.  But I also love our lap top for looking up things while I am watching TV and for travel it it awesome to have a lap top to take with you to keep up on BinkyBunnyStuff, IcanHazcheezburger, etc.  The the rooms we have stayed in recently have had internet access included into the room rate.

But it is nice to watch Netflix movies- downloadable- right onto the laptop,  Sitting out on the deck, having a glass of wine adn relaxing.

I think I live my desktop a little more- it is a more powerful “beastie”, but the laptop can be more convenient at times.

I’m hooked on my laptop!!!! I can bring it all over the house and can get so nice and cozy on the couch with a cup of coffee for catching up on Binky Bunny! But if I want a desktop feel, I just sit it on my coffee table.

OH noo Son it burns your leg whoo.  Try a pillow on your leg for now maybe til you can get it switched around.

Is 528   higher or lower than the 250 GB  harddrive?

Well the laptop is a notebook and a Gateway

                        M7301 u Notebook

                        3GB memory

                        graphics median accelerator

                        hard drive  250 GB

                        XD picutre card

                        dvd

                        headphones and stuff.

How does this rate in laptops/notebooks?         OH and it is pink. The desktop I have is really good.  burns cds

160 gb  it has 528 memory   I called the cable co and they told me would be 5.00 more than I am paying for dsl now.  Gosh I thought I would be saving $ and could shut off the DSL.    I heard you can get a box and pick up service if someone else in the area has service.  The cable co said is called fishing.

=P bunnytowne, haven’t you got a young little niece or someone who can do this for you

Here’s a way to think of it:
“gb” (eg., 160gb in the pink one you’re thinking about) relates to the amount of pictures and movies and songs and word documents you want to be able to hold (160 is plenty for you)
“memory” (eg, 3gb or ‘ram’) is how many things you want to be able to do at once (if you want to play sims or other video games you need a lot of ram)… it doesn’t actually have anything to do with how much you can store on your computer. it’s like your computer’s ability to remember the task it’s doing…. the more memory it has, the more able it is to remember a lot of thing
GHz is how fast your computer can do the things it’s doing… so once you’ve told it to do some stuff (the stuff that it remembers in its ‘memory’) how fast it completes each of those tasks depends on the GHz.

For all of these, more is better.

                          You want at least:
80gb hard drive (you could go with 60gb, which is less, but I think you like to take a lot of pictures?)
                          2gb ram
                          2ghz hard drive

And remember if you want to go online with your laptop you’ll either need to have it plugged into your internet in the wall or you’ll need to get a wireless router.
